  • negative bb drop though. bit wierd for not freestylin' innit?

  • Made a few tweaks to my croix de fer lately, mainly replacing the carbon forks (eyelets fell out in the Pyrenees and haven't trusted them since) fitted some 32c gravel kings and a 105 chainset. Went out for a ride this morning, rolls really well, although it's a heavy bugger it's a joy to ride.

  • Looks nice with steel forks

  • I think so too, shame Genesis steel forks are so fugly. Not really much difference in ride that I can tell, they have a nice bit of fore aft flex but don't feel "flexy"... only noticeable is that the geometry must be slightly different as steering feels slower. Not noticeable after a few miles though.

  • Yeah, we'll see. Like I said f+f was so cheap I'm not stressing too much

  • Wheelset robbed off my capo. This thing isnt getting anything that nice.

  • wait but you have the motherload of kray crabon front wheels innit? spengle's and whatnot

  • Which means I would probably have to go for the 107mm jis version.

If you need 111mm ISO, then you could use 109mm JIS: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/8756147/

  • I have a few yes, but looking to shift a few and the ones im keeping have other frames to live on.

  • This may or may not be on its way to me soon. May or may not have found a donor bike as well for wheels & brakes... Fingers crossed! Hoping to put together a fun pub bike/crap weather commuter thing.

Edit: I remember seeing a blue peugeot mtb with a wald basket, set up for light touring on radavist. Can't find it now, anyone?

  • Thanks for the info! I'll be getting a 110mm iso spindle from here and try it with that first before I go down the jis route.

  • made some progress! Dt Swiss r24 with conti granprix4000II 28c, sooo nice! need a "new" cassette and maybe new brake levers or new hoods (currently using black tape to hold hoods in place)

  • What is brake tape?

  • corrected ... black tape...

  • Nex saddle and my TT wheelset... have the Santé hubs...

  • Claud Butler Majestic on 26" wheels?

I need help here. I want to build a retro inspired ebike that doesn't scream ebike. I bought this pink bike from ebay because of those chunky tyres. How do those brakes fit so well on a frame designed for 27" wheels?

The bike rides nice enough, no complaints bar the reduced ground clearance, not helped by the long cranks. I'm concerned about the front forks which seem to flex when you slam the front brake or take a tight turn. I tightened the nut on the top of the fork tube and I am pretty sure it's the forks flexing.

I'm also planning to pull a Bob Yak trailer, you can see the mounts on the rear axle. Is this taking it too far with this frame?

I'm considering putting on rigid steel MTB 26" forks and narrow riser bars in hope of stiffening up the front end. What do you think, is this frame up to it? Local bike shop says no...

  • Put on the kalloy post and the 3t stem, the latter required some sanding to fit in the french fork steerer. Fits me like a glove with the longer seatpost and I almost forgot how much fun bull horns are. Next step: starfish with a slightly higher gear ratio.

  • A lot of the flex is probably coming from the canti-brakes. The cable will loosen and tighten as the forks flex. A V-brake or mini-V would remove this. Still gonna get some flex though.

Other forks may help a bit but its still a skinny tubed bike. Its going to flex. Its meant to.

Looks quite cool imo. Need to tidy up the mudguards though.

  • Thhis is some impressive ziptie action.

  • I know, mental! And all I could think was 'you didn't put any padding in between things' but seller got back later saying he'd redone it with a bit of bubblewrap around the tubes this time. Must have used up a hundred zip ties or something!

  • What is brake tape?

It's the component you build a biek around

  • I've got some yellow electrical tape, can I build a bike around that?

  • I run a DA7500 bb without issue with mine.
