I've ordered one of those for $35 a couple of days back. Will report on the quality when I receive it.

I'll take that.

Where are the fake SMP's for sale at?
-
• #1155
Carbon or padded? Aliexpress for both, in my experience. Padded one can be found listed as "chaunts".

On the off chance Sumo falls through, I'll take that.

I've got a couple of SMP TRK saddles in black that have become surplus - lightly used. £20 + postage if anyone's interested.

I've got an absolutely mint (literally never fitted or used) black TRK. CBA to post but could bring it into London and hand over somewhere on the commute.

• #1159
Anyone got a cheap dynamic they are not using?
-

I'm also interested in this. Gonna buy a 2nd hand Forma later this week, but I'm kinda worried it'll break my arse.

I've been touring about 3500km on a SMP Extra now and I cant get it in a comfortable position. I dont know if it because it's too soft of because its too narrow for my riding position. Im a bit tempted to strip it or to look for a TRK.

Back on the bike for commuting (finally) but only haz crabon fake SMP saddle which with no bibs and months off it is like sitting on a fucking needle.

Did anyone here ever strip an extra?

I think this thread is now going toward fake SMP than the actual thing.

I was upset to discover that my posterior has a preference for the fake over the genuine. Until now I cannot get on with my Composit but my carbon fake is great (so long as i'm wearing bibs).
It's been said may a time but the pricing of SMPs is pretty obscene-I wanted to support the genuine article so bought a 'mid range' Hell for the best part of £90 and it looked and felt like a £20 saddle so I sent it back. I then bought a Composit from Germany 'on sale' at £100, which isn't as comfy as the fake. Until that changes I think most folk won't spunk £180 on any saddle if they can buy much the same object for 15% of the price.
I'm wanting a couple of second hand TRKs just to shove on my commuters without fear of getting them nicked or the need to wear bibs.

I briefly tried the fake carbon one and didn't get on with it, just felt a little too narrow.
I then tried the 'Chaunts' padded fake SMP and got on pretty well with that, got a few of them - one fitted to Brompton, one fitted to my roadie and a spare.
However, I've just bought a 2nd hand SMP Forma from on here and tried it on my road bike. Although it's unpadded I've found it significantly more comfortable than the fake carbon one, it just feels a touch wider and maybe a slightly different shape. Anyway, it feels better for me than the chaunts, especially after 20-30 miles or so.
Have you tried an aliexpress chaunts one? They're great for the money and I think the padding's a bit firmer than the Hell.
Edit: But the pricing of genuine SMPs is ridiculous. I don't really see how they can justify it and I'd be much more willing to try a genuine one if they were priced in line with basically every other saddle in the world. I don't know how a plastic shell, thin layer of leather and steel rails can cost any more than £70 or so new, but I paid more than that 2nd hand.

Have you received it? Got an extra that I like for my commuter. Looking for a saddle for the 'best' bike weighing up between buying a dynamic, I have one on trial, seems great for me, but I haven't tried many other saddles, other than knowing that I want/need something relatively firm and with a relatively large cut out.
Other suggestions welcomed, anyone able to comment on the carved brooks cambiums, or the selle italia SLR superflow?

Don't think so, but it's delivered at work and I won't be in until Friday anyway. I'll post some pics when I get it.

I didn't believe the hype but I've just had a pain and numbness free two hours riding on a composit. No padding and yet so comfy. I've only borrowed it but now I know the shape works for me I can look to get myself one. Maybe with a little padding for longer rides but I'm honestly shocked. The only thing is that it made me way more stretched out as you sit at the back of it and I normally perched quite far forward. So I'd need an inline but I'm switching frames this weekend so that should be solved. 9/10

yeah set it a bit forward and you're set!

SNP is made in Italy, that won't explain all of the price difference but EU country with EU wages / environmental standards VS Asia wage / lower standards.
Add the lower volume compared to, say, Spez and other saddles that get bundled with bikes and the price does rise.
(I wish they were cheaper though... I cycle second hands, pro on fixie, plus on tourer and no other saddles work for me)

Glad to hear its working for you. Youre welcome to hold on to it till you can sort yourself one

Similarly I did a fit the other day and had the opportunity to test a Forma and my mind was blown. The shape of it and lack of padding doesn't make you think it will be comfy but it was much comfier than any other saddles I tried in the past.
I've got a test one now that the fitter kindly lent me for a month and am looking at where to get another one but there doesn't seem to be anywhere lower than £145 and there doesn't seem to be many second hands ones going.
Mantel and Lord Gun seem to be the best option for those looking.
I have a red Extra that's not getting used.
What's it worth?
£20?Can find them for £35ish online so anyone interested at £15 posted? Great condition bar a few marks on the rails and the garish livery is a little faded.
