  • Went to Workshop's coffee masterclass this weekend as work paid for most of it through our social committee. I'm quite new to coffee as i didn't have a caffeine tolerance until quite recently (thanks Emmy for leaving me the travel V60 and coffee when you stayed) so was very informative in teaching me the ways to brew (French press, V60 and Aeropress) and was very detailed about what coffee actually is/processes involved etc plus you got a free bag of coffee beans at the end.

What I didn't like was how snobby it got (telling us we should be brewing with waitrose bottled water). I understand not using hardass london water in your espresso machine but I'm not going out and buying bottled bloody water that's been shipped around the globe to make my cup of coffee from my V60. We didn't get a coffee to drink whilst we sat through 2 hours of the woman talking at us, I think it wasn't until 2.5 hours until we actually got some coffee. Its £45 which I wouldn't pay myself. If you ever go, take snacks as you will be bloody starving at the end.

    Not fun sounding!

I think they get it from Shropshire. Just don't buy Waitrose water if you live in Australia.

  • I was sceptical about using anything other than tap water until i sprung for a BWT filter and noticed the difference immediately. The water isn't too bad in South Wales, so i imagine the difference would be even clearer with London water.

  • I've seen so many coffee presentations where someone very pleased with themselves twats on about coffee without actually serving any to anyone. It's shit. Everyone is bored after 15 minutes, stifling yawns. Get a load of coffee into people early doors and they engage with such enthusiasm. You have an evening centred around stimulants - dish them out! Guess what too - people buy stuff when they're buzzing off caffeine and excited about all this new stuff they've learned.

  • Late to this discussion, but a britta water filter goes a long way....
