• What's up people so I'm doing a project right now building a bike with some good parts and I was thinking hey let's put a dura ace crank so conclusion I was wondering if I could put a 9000 crank or would there be chainline problems etc.

  • Dura ace: chainline 43.5mm (between chainrings)
    Track normally: 42mm

Also it will look terrible. Better look for Sugino sg75dd if you want to spend money.

  • The 75s were also an option but I thought the 9000s were nice because of the 4 ring arms

  • Because looks how slick the 9000s look but I guess I'll just slide on over to the 75s

  • If you run the chain on the inner ring the chain line will be almost perfect. Assuming you are using a 1/8th chain it will be as close as you'll ever need.
That also means you can file off the teeth on the outer ring to keep your trousers from snagging the chain, so great for road use. You will also need a really small sprocket, so the chain line will look cool too.

  • You couldn't use the chainrings that came on it anyway since the teeth are profiled for shifting, you may get chain drop issues unless your chain is tight. So you'll have to get a narrow wide chainring since track chainrings aren't available in the 4 arm bcd, then it won't look so good anyway.

  • There was a bike posted in the HHSB thread with 9000 Ultegra cranks I think. Can't be arsed to find it. Found it:

    Also this:

You could use a 3/32 drive chain and it would probably be fine. But seems like a lot of hassle rather than just getting a proper track drive chain.

  • Custom isn't really the same thing is it
I could get them to make me a track chainring for a 104bcd mtb crank.
Still going to be a TT ring. I wouldn't be skidding on a carbon ring

  • Same thing as what? There's no mention of what the bike is being used for in the OP.

  • But yeah, I wouldn't recommend for skidding about on either.

  • Check out my PM if you decide to go the Sugino route.

  • Do you already have the 9000 cranks?

If not, I have a set of Shimano R500 cranks (silver, 170mm) and a 130BCD 48T 1/8" TA Specialities chainring you can have for £35 posted. I mounted the chainring on the outside and never unshipped a chain.
