  • Everything I know about this bike if from people like you who have graciously given me input on this bike. I have had the bike inspected and appraised and it was found to be in great shape and was told to not let it go for under $2500 but I am flexible on that since I am not a bike guy in any way. I think it deserves a rider that can appreciate it. With all that being said here is the post. (yes I had it on ebay, I am not a shady seller. It's my bike in my garage hanging on a rack and for the right price it can be in your garage) Included is the reply from Somec about my bike.

Rare Awesome condition 80's Somec Road Bike. Mavic GP4 Wheels, Campy Brakes, Campy Derailleur with new red ceramic gears, Campy crank. Original Somec Pump. New brake hoods. New vintage brown leather handle bar wrap. Brand new Continental Tubular Tires with spare and emergency Pit Stop flat repair. Extra pump with tire tools.

This bike was expertly maintained and kept inside since the 80's. ZERO rust. Rides like it is brand new. This bike was hung inside under a custom made cover.

    Ciao Kevin !

Congratulation for being the owner os such a Masterpiece ! It is always a great emotion for me to see our vintage bikes in so good shape.

This bike it is a Somec of the end 70' beginning 80'. The bike has been baught from our german reseller, Willi Singer from Augsburg-germany, (who was also a profi rider for a Bianchi team). Then he sold the bike to someone and now is yours.

The paint it is a special paint called "cromovelato" infact it is a transperent red. It was the best of that time.

The tubes as you can see are Columbus and the components are Campagnolo.

    Always at your disposal.

    Kind regards

    Somec/Lara

  • Size?
    Price?

  • I've had a hard look at the pictures and through my drool I've managed to see 63 stamped on the bottom bracket (my size......*gently weeps).

I'm so torn with bikes like this. They should be ridden, to not so denies them their very purpose. But to make is a regular rider you'd need to modernise much of the build. Which means the charm is lost.

  • But to make is a regular rider you'd need to modernise much of the build

Why ? Love summer commuting or going on Sunday cafe rides on a vintage steel bike with period components

  • It's a personal thing for me. I have every confidence in a 30 years old frame but not with wheels and components that are 30 years old. And it's little things like the brake hoods on older bikes are too small and uncomfortable for my shovel like hands.

  • But if it's all original, I wouldn't change a thing. Just true the wheels or re-build them if spokes are gone and clean and re-grease everything else.
