  • Good luck @StevePeel. Make sure you let people know your work history and that they'll be getting the best coffee available in a very wide radius!

  • The donuts are AMAZING. We smashed four, and they gave us some to bring home šŸ˜ plus, the dog they have is so freaking cute.

  • Cheap Wega machine in Putney for those who want to have a little project:

  • No, that's a guy I know. He has bought a roasting machine and is teaching himself as he goes along.

  • Cool, hope you can grow both businesses together and the Northampton coffee scene will flourish

  • The phrase Northampton Coffee Scene brings a wry smile, but now you mention it there will now be 3 decent places for coffee and they're nicely spaced out. It's a good thing.

  • Anyone here work for a company that rents out machines?

I would like a Cimbali Q10 Caffe machine for our office, am looking for a London rental company that does these.

  • Having a clear out and as Iā€™m only having a few coffees on the weekend now and using the Porlex, I thought Iā€™d see if anybody on here is interested in this Cunnill grinder.

Picked it up from Dsan on the forum a few years back and at most itā€™s had a few filter coffees a week. If youā€™re looking for an electric grinder to have a play around with (as I was), this is probably a cheap way to have a go.

Naff pictures linked here, happy to take a few more if thereā€™s interest.

Iā€™m asking Ā£50 collected from St Albans or Welwyn in Hertfordshire - alternatively I can meet at Kingā€™s Cross or Farringdon stations.

    Thank you

  • Seems like a pretty good hand grinder if you haven't already got one:

That got funded. I ordered 2 - home and office - for about Ā£40. Now the hard part; waiting.

  • Brilliant. How close are you to all of the shoe places? Could make a great day out. Shoes. Coffee.

  • Yup. In the end I didn't back, my hand grinder still works fine. Though when it finally gives up - reckon another year - I know what the replacement will be.

  • I'll post pics when it arrives.

  • Sweet, cheers. I'm very interested in their claim that the grinder is more efficient. Plausible, considering their background.

  • What's the forum grinder these days? Small footprint. Nice looking. Only likely to use it for french press/pour over so doesn't need to be too fancy-pants.

I'm in the middle of the town centre, so pretty handy. Come by car and you've got the neighbouring towns' factories too.

  • I got a Hario Skerton from @Scrabble and it's fantastic. Workmate has a Hario Mini which is good too but has a smaller footprint.

  • Went to Workshop's coffee masterclass this weekend as work paid for most of it through our social committee. I'm quite new to coffee as i didn't have a caffeine tolerance until quite recently (thanks Emmy for leaving me the travel V60 and coffee when you stayed) so was very informative in teaching me the ways to brew (French press, V60 and Aeropress) and was very detailed about what coffee actually is/processes involved etc plus you got a free bag of coffee beans at the end.

What I didn't like was how snobby it got (telling us we should be brewing with waitrose bottled water). I understand not using hardass london water in your espresso machine but I'm not going out and buying bottled bloody water that's been shipped around the globe to make my cup of coffee from my V60. We didn't get a coffee to drink whilst we sat through 2 hours of the woman talking at us, I think it wasn't until 2.5 hours until we actually got some coffee. Its Ā£45 which I wouldn't pay myself. If you ever go, take snacks as you will be bloody starving at the end.

    Not fun sounding!

  • Give bottled water a go. I didn't believe it either but after trying I didn't go back. In london it's a huge upgrade.

  • How does bottled water fare vs filtered?

  • been shipped around the globe

I think they get it from Shropshire. Just don't buy Waitrose water if you live in Australia.

  • Isn't Shropshire supplied from the Elan Valley?

  • Ummm. Not sure what you're getting at. I suppose it all gets "shipped around the world" due to the global climatic system that drives fresh water distribution in general. However it says on the bottle it's from Shropshire.

  • I was sceptical about using anything other than tap water until i sprung for a BWT filter and noticed the difference immediately. The water isn't too bad in South Wales, so i imagine the difference would be even clearer with London water.
