Careful with swapping seatposts for fit - they should be used to position yourself correctly around the BB, then stems and handlebars swapped for reach adjustments

I have a problem with my Straggler:
I have a band on 105 front mech, and when using wtb Nano 40c (at 45/50psi) I have the front mech rubbing against the side of the rear tire when on the bigger gear. I know this sounds just an excuse to go 1x, but any idea in the meantime? The good thing is that I use these tires off-road, and I never come to need the 50t, so this actually occours rarely.

Can't see in pics, but can you push the wheel back in the dropouts a little?

Partly my point, if a bike fits an inline will work, the seat angle on a surly is pretty slack to start with so pushing yerself away from the bb even more is going against being in a good riding position. Swapped over on my cross check, never been comfier on it.

I've actually only ridden my wife's bike when it had an inline post and it felt pretty good then. I was swayed by the shiny and cheap sys ex :-/ anyone want a seatpost that's been inexpertly cut down to about 300mm?

I did that, and it sortet the problem. However I have the stupid non updated dropouts in which I have non screw preventing the forward slip on the driveside, so another issue arose.
How did you guys deal with this? Assuming you don have the new dropouts

The simple fix for this issue is tighten the qr, I mean really tighten it!
if that fails, buy upgraded stronger QRs, maybe Shimano XT or the like and do them up.
sorted the problem for me.

Yep, did that, but was a pain to open (with cold hands) to fix a flat. Also, I run PZ skewers for commuting and I am not sure I can tighten them as much.

I've used xt and m parts skewers, one quick release the other allen bolt. Never had a problem with the wheel slipping, just get em good n tight. Don't use halo allen bolt skewers though, I've snapped plenty of em.

Can someone help with Straggler SN? Long story short I started building up a second hand frame I bought last year and the serial number starts with M13 which would make it a 2013 right? Only that there was no Straggler that year??? Anyone found similar SN inconsistencies with Surly? Thank you!

• #414
Not an inconsistency, Stagglers were introduced early 2014, so frames will have been made in 2013.

Friend of mine is getting rid of his massive 62cm Disc Trucker frameset, any takers?

ah cool, bought one as well .. worst case a cheap starnut and top cap is less than a fiver, still a good deal.
650b is the only option for a 46cm!
I'm just hoping the top tube isn't too slanty in the 46.
What size is this, I wonder?
