I would go with the 20mm, with round, double butted, very thin silver spokes (think 1.8 /1.5 / 1.8), solely on aesthetics reasons.
But it could very well result in a noodly wheelset, I dunno. -

Get these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272570316970Do em up to 30mm carbons. Hubs are aero spoke ready, Gonna look boss!

Shouldn't be noodly with 36 spokes. Go for the 20mm.

Typical. Soon as I buy my hubs, these appear on eBay.
Ok rims ordered for the 36 hubs.
Also ordered the nitto m106 bars. But can't really progress until I find a replacement stem. Really gutted they lost the ibis. So maybe a grammo will have to do for now until one day another comes up.

What rims did you go for? Also (just to make sure) please no radial front wheel
-
• #57
gone for 20mm carbon rims laced to 36h Suzue carbon hubs.. and certainly there will be no radial lacing to be seen ;)

Sweeet. Soldered spokes? 😀

I dont think the local wheel builder is up to that task :s Dread to think what he would end up doing

Got a link to which rims you bought?

Sounds like an awesome wheelset!

Couple of things came through.
Got a nos grammo stem as the replacement of the ibis stem that went missing. Really wanted the ibis but will keep looking out for one and maybe some day swap over.
Getting the nitto bars on the stem was a major pain in the ass tho. Much swearing was involved. I tried the penny technique and plenty of lube ;) but still took forever to slowly get around the curves.

Also hubs came and generally in pretty good shape, and couldn't argue for the price.
Now just waiting for the rims then i will start on the wheelset and get this thing pieced together.

penny technique
Win! I never knew about that. Might have to try that on some bars I can't get in the stem on my Rudy.

Hey buddy,
Saw this pop up on eBay Australia, thought of this thread. Might be worth a shot.

Perfect . I will try to go after that then.
I got the grammo fitted up but not sure i like the look, and was always going to be on the lookout for an ibis.

So got levers on.. maybe later will sand them back to remove the logos and get them cleared again.. we shall see once i get it all built up. For now waiting for the time to come and get the wheels started.
Threw on a set of callipers i got for a crazy good deal. They will probably end up on my GT but for now they can go on this. Totally OTT but hell..
Also put on my ostrich kashimax aero on for now. I did fancy something slimmer and more modern. But will see once built.

Bare hubs in frames always look cool to me for some reason, even though it really serves no purpose.
Bike is shaping up nicely!

Haha yeah apart from bikes , me and my wife are huge Star Wars nerds.
So question for you all.. I got the hubs sorted.. but they are 36h njs versions. So for rims..I am going carbon and have a choice of 20mm high or 30mm . Anything bigger will look ridiculous with 36 spoke. I am leaning towards the 20 but any other thoughts?
Plus it would seem my beautiful ibis titanium stem has gone AWOL in the post. Damn it. They are crazy hard to find. At least I will be covered with eBay but means I am also without a stem now.
