This is what I thought. Just since this chap has one spare and I may be considering building a caad12 myself...
-
• #28
Uh oh...!
-
• #29
Haha nothing in stone yet
-
• #30
You wouldnt be the first forumenger to build a bike just because of some brakes...
-
• #31
Haha rep

Do I beat Amey if I build a bike around a single brake rather than a pair?
Obviously I won't be having as much fun as him though, what with it being disc brakes and all
-
• #33
Build the bike around a single brake pad

Happy to discuss selling the other flat mount brake if you're interested.
Definitely the place to start.I got the synapse alloy mechanical disc
Cable guide. Not sure it will be what I need as it looks like that frame is designed with brake cable stops and no internal housing. So might go for the zip tie method for the full compressionless as mentioned in that link I shared earlier.

Expect it to ride like the big brother Challenge Strada Bianca, which is amazing at 55 psi (30c).

Keep a hold of it and I'll get back to you soon after I've shifted some things around

For any other readers I also have a flatmount shimano hydro caliper for sale...

So frameset has gone back to sigma for replacement. The paint was applied a little skew on the frame, so the grey line on the top of the downtube sort of rolled off to the side.
Ordered a set of cheap and cheerful disc wheels from Evans for now. Aksiums Discs with tyres were in the ex-display clearance section for 100.

• #39
Would that be OK as a loose gravel type tyre?
-
• #40
Yes - and done loads of this

The paint on these are mostly skew.
My seat tubes paint is way off. Made me think my wheel was misaligned until I realised it was simply the paint.Watch the Askiums too. They flex a lot (dependant on rider weight/tyre size). I've removed the paint both sides of the chain stays before I changed the wheels to something much stiffer.

Good to know. Hopefully the next one will be a little better.
Also, thanks for the headsup on the wheels. I might put them in the truing stand and check that the tensions are reasonable.
So there has been a change of plan. @amey DA shifters can be yours. Don't think my Genesis Equilibrium with 105 deserves them.
I've just one a set of the hydraulic shifters (new) for £250 on ebay. So will now be looking for hose and calipers. Question now is do I set it up with the mechanical which I have everything for or wait....
@gillies, is the hydro flatmount caliper still available?
@Thuekr That is an amazing shot

subbed. i am building the same (yellow though).

• #44
Are you planning on mechanical or hydraulic?
-
• #45
i am gonna go all the way, hydro and Di2. I might post pics if you don't mind ? or i can start "disc brakes are dead, return of the vengeance"
i am basically building the bike around a rear derailleur... -
• #46
Since we've got disc brakes are dead, you need Long Live Disc Brakes
-
• #47
Sounds cool. Love the floro frames.

• #48
So what's all this hubbub about Discs being lethal all of a sudden?
-
• #49
So Evans sent the aksium wheels ex-display.
Unfortunately the wheels I received were a mix of the QR and thru axle versions and the thru-axle front wheel didn't have any end cap adapters.
Evans has kindly offered to replace the wheelset with a new one and throw in a set of Challenge open elite tyres (black/tan) for the inconvenience. Gotta wait two weeks for them though as the wheels are currently out of stock

does anyone know what a headset replacement would be for a caad12 to maximize slammage ?
Ive yet to see any disc calipers that are front or rear specific. Ive swapped deore hydraulic and spyres front and rear without issues
