  • As per title folks... after someone who is capable of painting a number of walls in a large corporate office in Victoria. Only problem is budget is minimum. I am aware that may be a no go for some people but my hands are pretty tied over this. I never thought I would say this but it would be "a great portfolio piece!"

  • I've heard @skydancer is good for this kind of thing, especially 3d.

  • what's the budget?

  • @jellyaxe ?

  • put up a video screen and get @Tijs to do a video mural

  • Budget is not much more than expenses atm. However feel free to pitch a costing and we (that) can try and rustle up some money...

  • Genius. Artists on expenses cheaper than painter and decorators.

  • This is a shocker.

Not sure why you have posted this in 'jobs' if it only covers not much more than expenses.

I'm in need of some design work, but haven't got any budget, could you ask round your workplace for me?

  • Put the pitch forks away lads... I am perfectly aware this isn't a realistic ask... however... if someone is serious about doing something like this and they come with a cost, then the higher ups may have to accept that cost.

  • Hows this for ya?

  • Entirely depends on what you want, and they won't do it for free but could be worth trying
    Artista
    Rob Lowe

  • Has the person / people "higher up" been made aware that this sucks balls? Expecting people to work for free is about as shit as it comes.

Maybe some vinyl wall decals could be a better solution. Motivational and low-cost = win/win.

  • WIN WIN INDEED!

Aye, they have, or rather will be told once I have tried to find someone for free... that Sainsbury's story is pure gold.

It's an odd, funny, and slightly annoying situation, that I have been tasked with.
I can see how the Sainsbury's saga went, local staff wanted to improve their workplace, head office gave them no budget, so they thought they'd see if anyone fancied doing it for free... what have they got to lose right? Only problem is then everyone jumps on them as if Mr J Sainsbury's has asked local artists to paint it himself.

    Bureaucracy and budgets...

  • after someone who is capable of painting a number of walls in a large corporate office in Victoria.

I think that line is the problem. Wouldn't seem as bad if it was some small crew getting started somewhere with no cash, but I'm sure if you have a large corporate office in Victoria, then you can surely pay out for a mural.

  • ^^ dude, only decent charities can pull that shit off and not get stained. I mean, what kind of eeejit does work for globalhypermegacorp and doesn't get paid?

  • I am aware of, and agree with all your points. They are looking for a student to do it, which I don't really agree with anyway.

As I have already said, a few posts further up...

" I am perfectly aware this isn't a realistic ask... however... if someone is serious about doing something like this and they come with a cost, then the higher ups may have to accept that cost."

  • And who hasn't had tasks from bosses they've not liked. I've done them just to avoid flack. Just work innit. Never know might be just the spring board someone needs.

  • The best possible outcome is that you can prove no-one can (or should) do it for free.

It might worth getting in touch with some artists like Trunkie suggested and ask them to quote for the work (I used to share a studio with these guys: http://cruelvapours.com - they'll do it for dorrah), if you can provide them with a brief. That would hopefully allow these higher up folk to realise that it might not be possible.

Or you could suggest the bosses do a skill swap, they go do a few days free work for the artist, maybe some book keeping, using the guillotine, cleaning up the pencil shavings etc. And when they come back they have some nice pictures on their walls. Could look good on their LinkedIn profile...

  • This is kinda what I'm aiming for.
I know folks should not work for free.
CEO's can be a little "optimistic".
It's my task to connect the two realities.
I'm not out to impress, I'm out to facilitate.

If someone is interested, but want's X for it I will present that option to them.
If no one wants to do it for free, I will present that option to them.

    Pick one.

(oh and I'm not into Graffiti so not going for that kinda vibe)

  • Not sure if you want a picture or text. But if you fancied some colourful, inspirational phrases, I know this artist... http://globalstreetart.com/survivaltechniques

  • Oh they are nice, and one of which is opposite my flat... presented to the higher ups and looks like we have budget now... more than a few hundred too, so that works out well for everyone.

  • If you like survival techniques check out Gary Stranger, and his colabs with Pref as well for something more cryptic
