Let's talk pedals

  • It seems like there is a thread for everything except for pedals so why not start one myself? Good intentions, right?
I just wanted to ask what pedals to go for as I'm tired of losing my insane Watts to slipping instead of putting them on the road when it's raining.
I'm using MKS Sylvan Track now and used Stream before. While being gripper, they mess up my shoes and feet. Why would anyone ever design pedals concave?
So I'm looking for new ones, preferably usable with toe clips and a bit wider as literally all my shoes look like this

Not too wide though, I'm riding fixed as a daily and I can compensate that with a flat surface I reckon.
I have GR-9 or Urban Platform in mind. They look kinda nice.

I use the MKS GR-10 for daily fixed commute and more and really like them.

  • MKS Sylvan suddenly make sense when you wear an old shoe with a slotted cleat.

I have Wellgo LU-950 flats with toeclips on a couple of my bikes. First set must be well over 10 years old now and have maybe 15k miles or more on them. They're quite easy to flip over and kick your feet into - main reason I like them.

  • I thought this could be somewhat of a thread with love for all kinds of pedals, regardless of form and function.
GR-10 also seems nice but the GR-9 looks grippier.

@Jonny69 aren't they a bit too wide for high speed cornering?

  • I used the GR-9 before moving on to the GR-10. Tactile difference is indistinguishable, but if anything the GR-10 is grippier because it's bigger. The extra width makes it easier to get in out of the cages as well. If you have larger than 8.5 UK feet, you'd be better off with the GR-10.

    (not my photo)

  • I used to have some MKS GR-9 and they were definitely too narrow and we're a bit painful as a result (size 11 feet).

I've been thinking of getting a set of flats with clips/cages again. It's about time I had a bike that I can just hop on.

The MKS GR-10 or the Urban Platform ones both look good. Would be interested to hear if there are other similar options.

  • I'm more of a 7.5 but the GR-10 definitely look more comfortable in this photo. Especially because of the middle part above the axle.
