  • How does OSMC differ from Kodi? Is it just a skin or is there something more, the website doesn't really seem to give much in the way of detail.

I've occasionally run into problems running stuff on ARM processors which could be an issue if you want to install anything else on there.

  • I think OSMC is based on Kodi

  • It is based on kodi. I wouldn't want to do anything but Amazon, Netflix, Eurosport etc.

  • Though I'm trying to find a Eurosport kodi add on that is up to date and working....

  • I use OSMC and it does work well, but it suffers from the same issue as all the other versions of Kodi - it's not viewed as 'trusted' by Netflix/Amazon etc and so they'll never release anything for it. They assume we're all trying to rip them off.
End result: I torrent stuff to watch on my Pi and use Netflix when I'm on my phone. It's stupid.

Because of this I expect you won't find an Eurosport add-in, but at least the Vero can run Android (which is apparently trustworthy, but just as hack-able as linux) so you can get the native android apps.

  • Yeah I'm using an old pi to run osmc. I've got prime working etc.
    Sigh.

  • Quick heads up if you haven't spotted it already. Pi2 and Pi3 are incapable of playing h265 video. It took me a while to work out why some downloads weren't playing. Was a right ball ache until I realised exactly why.

  • How have you got Prime working? Last I heard they'd broken the old plugin that worked?

  • Ah balls. I just took it out of a drawer last night.
    Fuck this shit.
    I'll buy a roku.

  • I thought long and hard about the Vero - it looks good and would allow you to play local content (from a NAS) if that's important to you. I couldn't work out if a Roku would do that natively (ie without a DLNA server).

Edit: this plugin has been recently updated so I'll give that a go - maybe they fixed it.

  • Pretty sure it doesn't, you need something like Plex to serve media to the roku.

Unless you have particular requirements I find the raspberry pi fine.

Saying that, the pi does struggle with the Plex addons to kodi so I'll soon be retiring mine.

Amazon fire TV could be an option. Can side load kodi and the rest is dealt with by apps.

  • I just want Netflix/Prime :( the the Pi3/OSMC runs everything else really well, it's just hamstrung by those two providers.

  • I just want telly in one place. Without plugging a laptop into my tv. With a low energy cost.

  • Amazon fire stick or box probably then.

I find the stick is slightly too slow but not everyone will be as picky.

  • What about the the box I suggested a few days ago?

  • Sorry. I'm on paternity leave and am investigating and forgetting as I go.

  • I'm a bit "ooh shiny new thing!" "Ooh another shiny new thing!" "Bedtime" "laundry" "ooh shiny new thing"

  • Wut?

Too late anyway, picked it up from Game this afternoon.

  • Odd Q: This is definitely not the right place, but someone here might know,

if i needed a reputable qualification, in SQL, who would i use? Crash course, work at own pace, online type course? The certificate at the end is vital as I need to show that I can do it.

Suggestions? Or which thread should I ask? Any assistance would be massively appreciated.

    1. Which variety of SQL?
    2. Developer-oriented or DBA-oriented?
  • Hello Techerz.

I have acquired my 'ol work station. (Dell T7600)

But I need to get a new power module and hard drive installed. (Along with an operating system etc.)

Should I find a local IT dude or try and source mesell?

    Cheers.

  • Do it yourself is easy but you may find the power module is fairly pricey as it may well be a non-standard size.

  • Good question.

I would presume closer to a DBA. But it would be more along the lines of being able to manipulate the DB that has preexisting information. Being able to use SQL to pull information like, what is out of date, what is missing, which records have used a particular name. I assume thats really really basic. But then again, im really really basic.

Where does one start with SQL?

What thread is this better suited to anyway?

  • Sounds easy. :oP

Just had a look on the bay an it appears I'm looking at £100+ from Asia or the States.

Shirley there must be a uk breaker / refurbisher for Dell?

  • If the target is MS SQL Server, Brent Ozar's courses might be useful, Ozar's a bit of a legend in MSSQL.
