Old mans cave, can't see any discs, carbon spokes, freaky frames. TM, I once thought you're the hhsb master...

Just dropping this here as well.
This project has gone to shit now. :(
I swapped the frame to a smaller pompetamine, but found it way too low.
I then bought a cheap full bike for the frame, swapped components and sold off Pomp with the components. Only to find out that the new frame would not take my chainset, looked ugly at the fork assembly.
I have squashed the chainstay to within an inch (rather a few mm) of it's life, but still no joy.So basically; I'm out of pocket and still need a frame for this.
So if anybody have suggestions or pointers for something that will get me going again for very cheap, likely second hand, let me know, please!

Help me get a frame for my SSCX! -

putting a bike together for gf
Thoughts? Frame and wheels are sorted already. Will be used to touring/multiday trips generally. Some bits will be bought second hand where possible to keep cost low.

Sora R3000 instead of 4700? Will save money plus the short rear mech supports up to 32t. All 9 speed stuff is cheap.

Finally got this thing built and bar wrapped. Unknown (probably 531) frame purchased from @sacredhart for a bargain!
Shimano 600 tricolor group from eBay and some silver Planet X wheels that have been sitting in a cupboard for too long. Cheap and quick commuter.
Liking the setup so I will probably transplant everything on to a tartier frame if/when the opportunity arises, then build this up fixed from the parts bin. But for now quite happy with it.

Nice!

Yeah might order one from there to keep the costs down. Regarding pressfit bb i'm going to use an adapter. Not as good as a threaded bb shell but will have to make do.

Good looking out.
Will probably go that route once I get the gravel frame in.

Which adapter. Make a CP thread! :)

a) will that work with the hope hub?
b) I - does r3000 come with disc calipers included anywhere as a package?
b) ii - if so, are the brakes up to much?
-
• #112938
a = yes
b = dunno but there is a sora level disc brake caliper: http://www.shimano.nl/content/spl-bike/en/home/components11/road/sora1/br-rs305.html

£20 bar tape!? Lifeline Professional is £6, if you can find any bar tape in the world that's £14 better than that you're a wizard.

Wasted 32 quid on some Lizard Skins DSP. Never again - I'll stick to getting mine from China for 2 dorrah.
-
• #112943
I've always used DSP and haven't minded paying for it in the past. Is lifeline really as good?
-
• #112944
Having used both, I wouldn't bother buying anything else now.

Almost done with the first version of my Sunn. The brake wires only fit dropbar levers so will have to get new ones.
Had to reroute the shifter wire to get the rear mech to work with the trigger shifter, it shifts the full cassette now but its not super smooth. Couldn't get the donor freehub of the wheel it currently is stuck to so I'm running 1x7 atm.
Need to see if the bike fits me before I throw more money at it -

Yo, so I've got a ritchey fork for my Pompino build and realised it's got a carbon steerer.
I'm plannin on runnin a Hope RS stem on it. Is tha all safe? I remembered some sketchy stories about using older stems on carbon steerers because of bad clamping systems. It's one of from what i can see - https://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/968/products/hope-rs-5-degree-road-stem-black.aspx

nice bike!
bit of a weird question but what crank and chainring are you using? it looks like just what I need....sq taper bb?

Had no time to actually finish this over the last week but as I now have a half-link in hand I've switched that in, decided I should put on some bar tape and take a pic. Absolutely pissing it down right now so no ride and not set up the seatpost to fit quite yet.

That was probably about early Thomson stems with the wedge clamp. The Hope one looks like 99% of current production stems and won't be a problem.
