Can't remember who it was who had it, but seems like updating iOS will help the random shutdown issue

That would be me... Either they fixed it or the weather is warmer now :)

Ha. Good timing isn't it. Spring arrives - cold weather bug is fixed!

And they get to take credit for it!
Battery life does seem better though, so they've definitely done something.

Anyone want this? 42mm https://www.amazon.co.uk/Unique-Magnet-JETech-Stainless-Bracelet/dp/B013SAJQB2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1488197913&sr=8-3&keywords=jetech
Ordered 42mm by accident and have thrown the packaging away. Yours for the price of a beer.

Quick question... does anyone use a separate monitor for their mac? My old iMac screen has pretty much had it (colours have gone) so instead of having to buy a new iMac, I thought I might as well buy a monitor which will be about a fifth of the price... any suggestions.

My mac is being odd. Every time I close the lid and it sleeps, when it wakes, iTunes crashes - every single time. Can't see any other reports online/any fixes.
Have restarted and reinstalled iTunes. No joy. Latest OSX etc.

What about replacing the screen.
-
• #10910
How does it look/feel?

I could do that but it's like 8 years old now so I'm thinking a monitor would be cheaper?

I've got a ViewSonic that seemed like a good option 2 years ago. Not as spendy as a cinema display but better than most, was around £700. Non-retina made sense then, but if I'd get a screen today it'd def be retina.
If you want something cheaper I'd figure out which Dell screen has the best rating for your budget. They seem to have pretty good options across the range and also good warranty if you get a lemon with dead pixels etc.

I've had a quick look online and seen a nice Dell and Samsung so I might go for one of those... there's a curved screen Samsung as well but I don't think that'll work for me

Disclaimer: I have not felt the original Apple version. This version definitely isn't stainless steel, nor is it trying to be.
It's good. I like how precise the fit can be. With the notches on the fabric strap I have, I found that I was in between two of them. Have got this one spot on. Very good buy for 10 quid. Not as soft as the fabric strap.

Had a feeling the time would come...the Apple Cinema HD Display (23") that I liberated from the 'to be thrown away as it's broken' pile and have been using for the last year or so finally appears to be giving up the ghost - flickering between solid black and normal display whilst plugged into my Macbook Air.
Assuming I can't find a magic fix to this issue I could do with getting a replacement lined up having got used to working in this way - have seen the Dell UltraSharp U2414H mentioned in a few places, but it's £230ish...any other recommendations at all?
EDIT: Just spotted @Johnnyw75 has asked exactly the same question above...sorry!

I've been using a dell ultrasharp 25" for the last year or so and I've been very pleased

Did they get rid of the weird anti-glare coating on the screen? I bought one and had to send it back as I couldn't work on it, screwed my eyes right up...
-
• #10918
Not sure, haven't had any problems myself. I never have direct sunlight on the screen though. This is the exact one I got..

Amazon will take it back if you don't like it anyway... Worth bearing in mind, I couldn't use it for design stuff as I couldn't get a white enough white on screen... Up close the anti-glare screen was made up of tiny dots, really weird thing to put on a supposedly Pro product for designers and other dickhead types...

I have an old apple 24 inch mini display port display and a dell 4K display. The dell display is a piece of crap compared to the older apple one. More pixels sure, but plastic and worse colour. Grab a second hand apple display. I was selling mine but prob keeping it now.

I had a quick look in PC World yesterday at their monitors, not much to choose from but they did have a Dell and a Samsung, screens both looked good colour wise, they we're showing game graphics so I guess they'd be good for design work as well... to me the Samsung looked slightly better resolution wise.

Eizo screens ftw. Probably going to be some good ones around second hand as they're releasing some new models.

So spenny tho'... That would be my dream work monitor...

I've had the CG276 for a few years, it's a bit outdated now but it's still working perfectly. I had to pay full price for it and the first one they delivered was totally borked. They had a new one to me by the next day and it's never skipped a beat. I'm sure they must start coming to the second hand market now the 4k stuff is arriving.
i don't have a landline, so its the only phone in the flat.
i found it, but i had to reset the password 8 times before it would ping...
