I've linked to these before, but probably an excellent opportunity for a cheap functional frame - pop a set of surly or thorn forks on it and you're good to go!

Lots of sizes and only £130 posted!

When your fork mounted drybags are almost as big as panniers, your anything cages stick out more than a lowrider would, you seatpack needs a clamp on support and you have to have your bottles on the stem and under the downtube getting covered in cow shite, is bikepacking still worth it?

You're asking the wrong questions.
When your fork mounted drybags are almost as big as panniers, your anything cages stick out more than a lowrider would, you seatpack needs a clamp on support and you have to have your bottles on the stem and under the downtube getting covered in cow shite,
is bikepacking still worth itwill your bike be featured on The Radavist? The answer is yes.

Ugly as sin. Bars at the wrong angle. Slack chain. Etc etc.
But I love it.

Looking for the best front rack and bag combo for my Croix de Fer, ideally a single bag that is waterproof and will handle a days office clothes and a towel. Possibly a large laptop every so often.

Specialized Pizza rack and bag could work!

Was thinking that but wondered if there was some other options. Anyone got that ^ setup?

I've got a minoura porter rack and inside line equipment rack bag. Work pretty well together

And the bastards still won't ship outside the UK. At least the XL is sold out now so I don't have to think about it anymore ;)

To me 80% of the posted bikes starting to look the same. Steel, disc, porteur, fat tire and dropbar. My interest is beginning to fade a little.
Somehow we all started to stare ourselfs blind at these same style bikes.
I happen to have a Wolverine and Crosscheck both with drops but when I go for a long haul I always take my old steel Giant mtb with flatbars and a rear rack with some good ol' Carradice super C's and there is nothing more compfie than that.
Anyone had this experience?
To me it looks like style takes over the function in this forum.

I agree.
I've only ridden with drops around 100k, and I hated it.
To me, wide risers are where it's at.

I've the Minoura Porter rack and Chrome Duffle for exactly this purpose. No complaints.

absolutely the same.
on these new generation of bikes, after you actually ride some proper miles, the disc brakes start rubbing, the bikepacking bags loosen themselves off and flap like mad, the gear indexing goes out, the dynamo stops working properly, the bottom bracket starts creaking, etc etc....
my old trek 970 and two ortlieb panniers, running friction 1x7 and v brakes, is the one bike I know I can count on, whenever

Ah, the halcyon days of my youth when we had steel rims, cork brake pads, and 2x6 gearing if you were lucky. These new trends will never catch on, it's just a phase we're going through.
I'm also looking for some Rando bars with rise and flare. Wide ones 44 or bigger. Something like the Nitto B135. Anyone got anything?
