• I wouldn't touch the Hummus. If you do I may have to hunt you down cos its a beauty as it is. It would like the time that guy tattooed his dog.

  • What kind of welding course is it? I mean is it bike related? If so go for something crazy that you could never pull off by yourself at this point.

  • @TM and @MisterMikkel, like with inverted crosses for legs or something?

@fizzy.bleach thing is, I've looked at a lot of homemade trailers and you can do a lot without welding. Most homemade ones use a pair of regular wheels and a fork either side.

@tjabo, I'm not too friendly with my dentist, I'm happy with that!

  • Don't worry, I think I've decided against it. Though, looking at it and the 1x1 today I do want to change things up a bit, nothing too drastic so don't worry!

@voxelwise, no not bike related at all but the teacher seems pretty open to us doing whatever.

The wife has said no to a tall bike but I may try and work on that. Actually no, fuck that, imagine trying to transport a half welded tallbike to and from a night class! Hahaha!

  • I'm an idea person, I suggest things that fit the brief with no thought at all to the actual implication/creation.

  • @Tjabo on the other hand... 1 1/8" ahead bullmoose to put on the 1x1 would be fun.

  • I was thinking something more hack-bikey but that could possibly work.

  • What about some kind of satanic fork with a built in rack?

  • Does a satanic fork have three legs?

  • I'd make a truss fork. They are cool.

  • A satanic truss fork aye?

  • Old-school Raleigh Bomber/Pashley Postiebike bent-toptube s-bend stays but for 3.0" tyres.

  • I'm giving this a second shot. Make one of these!

You'll get to make a fork, a rack and weld on disc tabs all in one project (and you won't have to sacrifice any of your frames doing so).

  • 666

  • So pretty much anything so long as it's satanic?

I'm thinking turning a normal fork into a truss fork could be cool. Would mean steerer and disc mounts and stuff were all sorted plus since I'd not really be relying on the truss part for strength nothing should really go too wrong.

  • Yeah this seems like a good idea.

Maybe truss fork, bull moose bars and if there's time, cargo fork.

  • 2 heavy as fuck frames (for the shocks and mounts and maybe headtubes and bb shells etc), 4 steel 1 1/8" ahead stems and 4 steel forks.

The stems are really just so I don't have to source 28.6mm id tubing to make steerer clamps for stuff.

  • I'm liking this truss fork,

Edit: for some reason it's much bigger here and now that I can see the detail, I don't like it.

and think it could quite easily be replicated by attaching two normal forks together. Although, making a truss fork with 2 sets of thick legs might be rather redundant.

One of the forks I bought today has a disc mount, maybe i could use the bottom inch or two of the legs from that fork to hold two thinner legs?

  • Excuse the total lack of scale but you get the idea?

Even just replacing the fork leg with a tube that could plug inside the bottom couple inches of the current leg then add the truss could work...?

  • what about something like these

  • They make my teeth feel funny even when they've been made by someone who knows what they are doing.

Would make a lot of things easier though...

  • 2nd on the cargo fork, failing that, a bigger project: pedal go kart/4 wheeled recumbent frame
edit: apparently its called a velomobile or quadcycle

  • What's the idea with these forks? What do they make easier?

  • The idea is they give a bit of suspension.

What they'd make easier would be building them, chop the bottom off one set of forks, the steerer off another, cut those plates from sheet, couple welds, hey presto.

(Not quite as easy as that obviously!)

Linkage/girder forks would be cool but with them, not much stays in the same place relative to the hub.rim so mounting a brake is a challenge. With those Black Sheep leaf spring things, I could cut up a fork with a disc mount already on it.

Wonder if they really need a bolt through hub though...
