I want this thing back on the road tonight. I don't have opp. for socket buying and I don't have a bench or bench vice at home to help hold the thing while I try and tighten it.

In that case, just do it up nice and tight. If anything, it probably won't be tight enough unless you're using a long spanner or adjustable wrench - 50Nm is a fair whack and requires a decent amount of effort even with a 2' long torque wrench.
