  • the usual solution is to buy a new bike

  • Has anyone put 28c G+ Corsas on R24s? Or anything with an internal width of 18mm? Would be interested to hear the exact width they come out at

  • Good to know. They were the tyre of choice on bmx when I was growing up but good on mud and acceptable on road is what I'm looking for so will steer clear.

  • Was hoping the Compass doubts were not applicable to my of Snoqualmie Pass tyres. Oh no. Catastrophic double puncture on the rear salvageable only with a tube last weekend, now the same on the front from a single nick on my ride home. And they don't grip well in the wet.

I'm using orange seal, as spec'd by Compass. Is that what's at fault? Just doesn't seem to seal anything and as soon as I do puncture it all starts pissing out around the rim at various spots. Guess it's worth trying Stans before I bin them.

  • For my 80% road, 20% gravel/offroad commute I think I'm down to the Clement Strada LLG 120 tpi vs Gravel King at around the same price point. Which way to jump? Looking for best compromise of puncture resistance, fast-rolling and nice-riding.

  • Gravel kings get pretty awesome reviews. Gonna be my next set to replace some "will these ever wear out?" paselas.

  • I had the cheap Strada LGGs (60tpi?) for a good few months and really liked them. Reasonable grip, they didn't feel draggy, not too puncturey (better than Gatorskins/4 Seasons for me) and cheap. Full disclosure: the worst I subjected them to was the occasional gravel path; they spent most of their life on shitty London/Kent roads. I only stopped using them because the bike they were on died a death.

  • Wow, didn't realise running fat tubeless tyres involved ponying up £125/pair.

I think all the CS Grupetto club riders who have tried road tubeless have gone back to standard clincher setup within weeks. Or hours.

  • the bike they were on died a death.

    RIP Brian

  • CS Grupetto

    That explains it

  • Why I outta

  • @dubtap - I almost had the same reaction when I my front Pro One decided to throw up all over me in its first week, but they're growing on me now. That first massive fuckpuncture didn't seal completely, but I was able to ride it in the other 8 miles regardless after giving it a quick top up pump half-way in, and a bit of superglue and a TipTop patch fixed that within 10 mins once I was at the office. On other rides (around country roads with recently cut spikey hedges no less) I've got home to find that one or both tires had multiple thorns in them – but I just didn't notice. I suspect I would have been two tubes down and enjoying a long walk if I'd been riding tubes.

@amey Alas, poor Brian. I knew him well.

  • My gravelkings havent lasted as long as I thought they would ~1100miles. They seem to cut quite a bit to be honest especially on the rear, now its just fizzed air out, glass stuck in.

Worth giving a second go? Any alternatives?

  • whats the avg user use of gravelkings?

  • I had them for 1300km, rear is pretty worn, front is fine. Both have multiple cuts, so i would agree mith musa on this..

  • 2,150 km on mine in 4 months or so. No flats. No visible wear.

    26c

  • wow thats good going, for me i put them on, on 11th jan and this morning i taped 3 sections inside the tyre where its gone through, now got another.

i think ill get another one then.....

  • NB this is only on London, Essex, Herts roads. No gravel. And I am not a king.

  • yeah likewise . london and kent

  • I've got well over 3k on my 26c GKs, but they're on death's door

  • So I spoke to this guy at the Omloop sportive yesterday, who claims he gets better life out of his tyres (ie: "ride them down to the thread"), by taping the complete inside with electrical tape after they wear down a bit.

I dismissed it as bullshit looking at his mamil chariot but he looked pretty sure of himself.

  • I used to tape the inside of Veloflex Corsas, seemed to work pretty well

  • Don't do sportives

  • But where does one go to spot the "hip" 40-something couples flaunting matching massive stack matte black etap Madone's in complete shadow kit?
