I've never used canti's but compared to rim brakes they are far more consistent and have better modulation
I used avid 7 disc brakes around the Leith hill and box hill trails and they were great.
Not having to worry about out of true wheels is another bonus
If your ever in the Bristol area and want to try some hydraulic brakes before you buy give me a shout -
I think you'll get more power out of mechanical discs than cantilevers, but everything else will probably be worse.
Shorty Ultimates, or the lower-end model? With the Ultimates you'll get more power with them in the narrow stance. You can also sacrifice some rim-to-pad clearance to get more power by shortening the straddle cable.
CX peeps: have we decided that cable-pull discs are not worth it over a pair of good cantis? I am having issues with no stopping power on a pair of shortys which is fine for racing but not for training in the Bath area.
