I've always thought it wouldn't work to polish the lighter leather. I thought it had to be stained as well? If it works I'll probably do it to mine. For what it's worth I've got 5 pairs of Trickers 2 bought in Trickers sales and the cheaper ones have always had some little faults. It's not bothered me much because they are not super smart shoes but take a good look at them before you take the plunge.
