Quite how far East the proposals extend to isn't clear, but if it is all of Tavistock Place that takes it out to Sidmouth Street, which would be fucking great, if ten years late!

And here is the detail:

Protected track will be one way East Bound, and the East bound carriageway will be a two metre light segregated track... Exciting times.

Tavistock way is now one way for motors with one way track each side coming for bikes... Looks great but I haven't been down there yet.
-
• #5
Its good!
Much much better than the narrow two way route -

something is not quite right here...

What a lovely environment to ride in, on a Saturday, loads of Confused traffic going north south, but nothing on Calthorpe either.

People seems to have got used to the scheme now and the initial confusion gone. Even the increase in vehicles on Woburn Place seems to have gone now too. The taxi lobby was very vocal about it at the beginning, I’m not sure how ferocious they are now. All in all a really good scheme. Cyclists and non-cyclists are positive about it (admittedly I’ve only spoken to peds rather than car drivers!). I think it’s in for a year trial, but it looks really good.
There’s this site set up to gather support: http://bloomsburycycling.org.uk/

I have had a look at the nearby streets on and off. Certainly no traffic armageddon, though the junction South out of Marchmont Street seems a bit busier with a lot of queuing cars going South on a cut through to Russell Square.
Also they have re-allowed the left turn North onto Judd Street which is a big problem as it clashes with the major Eastbound flow of cyclists going home.

There are 2 quite exciting consultations open now - one at the top of Judd St that might mean cyle only coming into Judd St, and one just by Brunswick centre, getting rid of rat run by Coram Fields. Should mean a lot quieter Judd St, and ties in with Tavistock Place, so doesn't look like the council are planning on taking Tav Pl scheme out. Good news, I'd say.

Yeah, cutting out the connection of Judd to Euston could go a long way to quietening what are residential streets.

If you think it a good idea to keep the current separate cycle lanes on this route vote here:

Bump!
As @skydancer said, vote now to keep the separate cycles tracks on Tavistock and Torrington Place.
-
• #14
yup, smogless, congestionless two-way, east-west bicycle flow seems better to me for more people than motor vehicles clogging up a perfectly good London Cycle Network;
plenty of space on the larger roads for motor vehicles, especially those exhausting smog and polluting fumes!

I like the principles of this scheme but the Junction with judd street still needs sorting. That is due with the implementation of CS6 to Kings Cross which would block access to Euston Road.

Mailout from LCC:
If you do one thing this week – take one minute to save #TaviPlace:
https://consultations.wearecamden.org/corporate-services/torrington-place-tavistock-place-route-proposed-im/consultation/intro/viewPopular segregated tracks have been on Tavistock, Torrington and Byng
Place for decades. A year ago Camden hugely improved the road layout,
removing a lane for motor vehicles and adding one-way tracks either
side for cycling. The results: double capacity for cycling, huge
reduction in “hook risks” at junctions, 50% increase in cycling on
some sections; 26% increase in people walking. Air quality has
improved too.Now Camden are consulting on making the scheme permanent – this will
be a huge win for cycling if it goes ahead. The main group against the scheme are taxi drivers who are furious
about being inconvenienced for pick-ups and drop-offs at local hotels
and nearby train stations. The LTDA say they support cycle tracks but
are lobbying their members to scupper the consultation. We need to outnumber taxi drivers and demonstrate how well-loved the
scheme is.Responding to the consultation literally takes one minute. Just make
sure you answer Q6 “Would you like the current street layout… to
become permanent?” as Yes. And Q7 “Would you like the street to return
to its pre-trial layout…?” as No.(I just did it).

Does anyone know when we might hear the results of this?

Stick that up your pipe LTDA.

Good result.

Council reccommends a full public enquiry
-
• #22
Summary?
Not sure I can bring myself to pick through that
-
• #23
They say that the scheme should go ahead, but because an enquiry is inevitable they recommend starting it at once so it doesn't hold things up.
-
• #24
The LTDA spent a lot of time and money to stir up `anti' opinion, this was formalised through the BRAG group and they submitted a 6000 signature petition which has obviously swayed some heads.
Why on Earth we need a full, expensive public inquiry is beyond me, it's just some fucking cycle tracks on back streets for half a mile...
-
• #25
Ta for the explanation :)
As part of the West End Plan, an amendment to the originals has it that westbound motor traffic is going to be filtered from Gower Street Westbound. With the northside cycle track going one way and the westbound carriageway converting to a cycle track...
Or something like that:
