Thanks for the additional information. You're now indeed right. Noblex did even produce the stainless steel parts one year earlier in 1994, It's the year where this bike is from.

Reynolds 753 and 653 are steel tubesets that have the same constituant elements and external tube profiles as 531. What makes them superior in strength is the level of heat treatment applied. 753 and 653 have the same tube guages (drawn thinner than 531) but as the main tubes of 653 are of a lesser strength than 753 there are (were) frame builders who consider it inferior to the other two sets and would not use it. This Gazelle frame is a bit of a dark horse, as it were. It would appear that the forks and stays are from a different steel manufacturer so to badge it up 653 may be stretching the truth a bit as 653 is very much a tube set.

The frame is currently in the Netherlands.
Love that 731 OS, I did see it on your Flickr. It also goes nice with my other Gazelle: -

Those frames are hard to find. I kind of accidentaly bought it, when I didn't even knew it was such a nice ride and high end frame. Now I have it several years and won't let it go. I love the stiffnes of the frame. it's just about right. Not as much as Columbus max, but also more then Reynolds 531 I. Now I am looking to upgrade it with another Campagnolo group.

Apologies for the thread dredge... but who got this?
Has it been built-up? I'd love to see a photo of it as a complete build.... -

Incredibly ugly; looks as if it had been regurgitated by a Flemish squid.

As above, MCamb has it just right (just add a small pointy beard).

• #42
You really think this frame is 'incredibly ugly'?

I don't think anything in inverted commas. It looks like decor, vulgar decor.

why do people use Royce hubs? Why not just anodize your testicles? would be lighter ... perhaps it wouldn't be a matching set.
