In a staggeringly crowded field of things that are under attack, the media needs to downgrade itself – not least because doing so will make it stronger.
...
However self-deprecating and counterintuitive it may feel, media outlets could communicate just how little of a toss they give about Trump’s characterisation of them by mostly ignoring it.

That's got to be the plan. We need the media to stick the boot into Trump, at the moment he seems to have them backed into a corner
