I'm using a couple of these at the moment for Linux development machines. I'm really impressed. They're just rebadged Gigabyte pockits.
I'm going to buy a third for TV use. I'll let you know how I get on.

Their Celeron units are half the price of their i3 one:
https://www.novatech.co.uk/pc/range/novatechpockithdnpi17.htmlWonder how it compares to the faster boxes in real terms?
-
• #3607
I dunno what the comparison would be, surely it's just better to buy the fastest best thing?
-
• #3608
Yeah, that's why I was looking at the Intel boxes. They test fast.
If you wanted cheap though, go properly cheap. -

Bought and gone, sorry.

I have one of these if you can find one:

popped a 512gb ssd in and 8gb of ram and its great for media playing needs. Plays 1080p no problems, I got a small USB external soundcard so could get DTS optical audio over vanilla stereo but that's its only short coming for media playing imo. I even play some basic games on it like FEZ.

That's cool!

trainer road?
-
• #3618
I could get it running on my shitty nvidia card but with the nvidia drivers enabled I'd get a blue screen in a matter of minutes so I disabled it. I'll get something with more grunt.

trainer road?
Not a clue, without knowing the min spec of the software.
-
• #3620
tbh. I don't know why I asked that. it was an automatic response.

Mine are the celeron models.
I'm just testing openelec on one. Plays h264 4k ok which is pretty much the toughest test a box connected to a TV will see.
I'm not sure I'd bother with an i3 model. Mine compile C++ fairly nicely too. Definitely faster than the cheap VPS instances I was using before anyway.
CD's? DVD's? I feel like I'm 27 again, this thread is a time warp, no wheres my White Star cider?
