  • Small update.

Yep, I've handed the petrol station a proper letter requesting footage. The assistant manager didn't know how to copy cctv so I'll go back next week. However, she did tell me that the police had been in and taken a copy, and that fault was clearly the driver's. Hoping the PC puts that on his report.

O's replied to my pm with advice. I'll monitor my injuries til the new year. Likely I will need to write directly to the insurer rather than involve a solicitor.

Started photographing all evidence of damage to the bike and clothing, property, body.

Mechanic in Halfords was cool, gave me a full handwritten report, recommending a new bike unless all damaged parts are replaced due to carbon fork etc, and difficulty sourcing specialist parts like 1" aero bladed carbon forks.

Another bike shop needs to print me a formal quote for repair/replacement of parts and will do so next week.

I decided one independent and one chain, because an insurance company will know of Halfords so tough to argue with.

  • Seriously get a solicitor to handle all the claim, it's a load of time and hassle, and they will get paid for their efforts you won't be compensated as well if you do it yourself.

  • Will look into it first week of the new year. Advice from O was that unless injury claim is over £1000 (excluding bike etc), it's not worth involving them.

  • Bike written off plus your injuries will be over £1k

Have you been to hospital? You need full medical documentation of injuries.

  • I went A&E after leaving the scene (no ambulance), received medical treatment for injuries (painkillers on arrival), doctor was confident it was bruised/swollen and refused to x-ray. I'll be following up at my GP next week or week after due to aches and bruising.

  • Always leave in an ambulance.

  • A mantra for life.

  • It's true though. If you've been in an RTC, don't go anywhere except in an ambulance.

  • Slid off on an icy roundabout today - dislocated my elbow which I put back in within seconds of hitting the deck, and just got back from A&E. They suspect a hairline fracture so I'm going back to the fracture clinic tomorrow.

Frustrating, as we decided not to go to Surrey (Box Hill/Leigh Hill) due to the ice so headed to Richmond. Did a lap, and I suggested we head for Dorking and see how it is, and maybe do Box Hill but avoid the others. Got about 5 miles down the road and slid off right outside Maiden Manor train station - which was convenient to get back to Loughborough Junction.

Not in too much pain now. I'll see what they say tomorrow but I imagine it'll be a few weeks to heal up. Doctor said the sling was for comfort rather than mandatory.

  • Ouch. Hope it's not too serious.

  • Fuuuu...

Ouch, heal up. Ice is getting sketchy.

  • @Howard @pdlouche thanks!

Back from the fracture clinic this morning. They can't see a fracture so i just need to rest it in a sling for 3 weeks, but i need to do exercises so i regain full movement. I should be back on the road/track in February.

  • Rider down..... Me.
Got hit by a car turning left with no indicator.
Riding down Queens Road, Peckham towards New Cross, in the cycle lane filtering up the inside of the very slow moving traffic. No cars indicating, make the judgement it's safe to proceed, then get side swiped, land on the bonnet then bounced into a mini somersault. Cracked helmet, small hole in Goretex, bike seems fine and I've come of with minor grazes and bruising.

  • Heal up, you sound ok but maybe worth seeing a doctor/nurse.

  • Just been taken out on the way home from work. Two cars in central reservation going right (one infront of the other) along the Telford Road (North Ciruclar A406) cross road with A109 Bounds Green Road. One pulled out infront of me just about missed it and the second one followed suit but unfortunately couldn't do anything, luckily hit the back end of the car went over the handlebars and hit the tarmac on my shoulder. Thankfully the guy stopped, exchanged details got the ambulance down to check me out as my shoulder is more fucked than America after the presidential election, gave me some ££ as was on his way.

Only had my Raleigh Criterium Sport a week and the front wheel is slightly buckled and my day old Giro helmet is now cracked. Question is would anyone reccomend a good affordable front wheel or wheelset to get?

    Cheers guys

  • Never heard of that brand? It new?

  • Sorry: heal the fuck up, hope you recover well.

  • Oh ahaha thought you meant harden the fuck up! Was saying to myself who's this asshole haha. How're you doing? Was reading your post a couple posts back

  • Ouuuuch. Sounds nasty. Hope you are OK.

Have you read the 'in case of an accident' thread?

Short answer: pair of RS10s, Mavic aksuims, fulcrum racing 7

Long answer: are you OK? Are you sure? Are you sure the bike is OK, other than the wheels? Get everything assessed properly including yourself, work out the cost of putting it right, then work out if you need to claim on driver's insurance.

Oh and the helmet died heroically doing its job on day #1, it's what it would have wanted, and it's in a better place, now :)

  • Yeah I'm good brother, yeah fortunately read it long before so I've got the drivers details the CAD reference number from the police and a statement/document thingy from the two lovely ambulance ladies so if anything needs to progress I'm all set. Fortunately its on a busy junction so theres 1-2 cameras and have contacted the council & police to get this just incase.

I'm good, its some muscle bruising I suspect as I've broken this collar bone before and it definitely doesn't feel like a break/fracture. Just gonna give it a couple days see how it gets on and if it gets worse/better. Yeah I've taken it to my local halfords and all is well (thank god) just had to tweak the derailleur a little as it was pushed over and brushing the chain slightly.

    Thanks for your concern buddy!

  • Sounds like you are on it. Good stuff.

  • Out of interest, by taking some money from him, could that not harm you if you do a claim?

  • Yeah I think it might. But on the other hand could better your chances as they wouldn't have paid out unless they felt guilty?
