Would anyone here be interested in a pair of Loake Downing Derby shoes in black calf leather? (Size 8/F)
They were an emergency buy for a funeral but I ended up not requiring them so they're still new in the box. One was tried on, the other wasn't.
They cost £225 so would £155 (including recorded postage) be agreeable?

Edit: £150? Offers?

I have found a trickers outlet store near me. Is £240 for a pair of brown brogue boots good value?
Look like this

I paid that for a pair that are not Trickers. So yes. If they fit.
-
• #5435
Aye. They are around £400 in the Jermyn Street store. I'd be inclined to get a gum sole though...
-
• #5436
You'd pay that for a decent non-brand pair of boots (meermin for instance) -
If you specifically like those ones then go for it. You're unlikely to find Tricker's reduced more than that. -

Commando sole is more appropriate for country activities. I agree others are more discrete but these will probably get a fair amount of foul conditions use.

I would avoid the honey leather trim on the sole/upper. I have a pair of grenson fred with that colour and it doesn't last/is difficult to polish the rest of the boot/makes the boot look bigger than it is. You can use clear polish but you might need a colour polish sometime.

I think I'd just polish it with darker polish and not worry about the lighter tone.
-
• #5441
I've always thought it wouldn't work to polish the lighter leather. I thought it had to be stained as well? If it works I'll probably do it to mine. For what it's worth I've got 5 pairs of Trickers 2 bought in Trickers sales and the cheaper ones have always had some little faults. It's not bothered me much because they are not super smart shoes but take a good look at them before you take the plunge.

One of the shoes has been tried on a lot more than the other. The leather is more creased but given the fact they will be worn the other will catch up soon enough.
I can't imagine that the trim will come to match the rest of the shoe, but I won't be too bothered by it.

There are a few links around on the net about putting a good crease into the upper on a new pair of shoes (using a pen, between vamp and toe). Could recommend trying to replicate the crease on the lesser worn shoe - it would bother me a lot to have asymmetrical creasing. That being said, the creases should come organically I suppose.

^ why would you want to do a 'fake' crease? It'll come in a few months anyway

Or is this another batch of anxious male fashion bloggers looking to get their shoes looking authentically worn?
-
• #5446
Business opportunity? I can wear holes in new jeans too.

I don't think it's about faking the crease, it's about making a solid clean line that is the same on both shoes for aesthetics and function. Otherwise as the shoe moves with the foot you can get multiple creases and stress points on the sides of the upper.
Found the link I was thinking about, read after looking at them as a relatively new business:

A bit jeans'n'schuh in the photos though.
EDIT: and the double crease:

It's already been done, embarrassingly for all involved.

Anyone interested in a Tanner Goods Workman Wallet and long tether?
They're unused in Black. Got em at christmas as an unwanted present. -

I keep vacillating about my Crockett and Jones loafers, sometimes they're just the right size, other times they're just too small - I'm guessing it depends on what I've been doing and the temperature etc.
They've been worn very little, toward the end of last summer.
Would anyone be interested in them? They're an 8.5 that have been subject to a light stretch by John Rushton (from whom I purchased them for £345). I'd say they were just under a 9 now, although of course any prospective purchaser would have to try them.
Stratford Westfield has these Cheaneys in a few sizes
