• Hi,
I'm after EITHER a steel, preferably 80s early MTB frame and fork OR a Surly LHT F&F in 52cm for 26" wheels.

A really early Saracen MTB would fit the bill nicely. I'm picky - I'm after a lugged fork (not unicrown). I'm not fussed about the surface condition, as long as it's sound and free of dents, and comes without seized seat posts or BBs, etc, as I'd consider powder coating. I'm either going to build up an old frame into a Long Haul Trucker-esque utility / commuting / touring bike with an Alfine hub, or build a LHT into, er, a LHT (I'll be transferring the bits from my current version built around a Marin Bear Valley frame that doesn't quite fit right).

I'm 5'9; will use this with slightly swept-back bars so a longer top tube isn't a big problem, but I don't want standover of more than 80cm or so I guess. A 22" / 23" top tube would probably do it.

hope someone might have something suitable!
    thanks...

  • hi i have a nice early 531 reynolds lugged mountain bike frame( built up as a bike at mo) with horizontal drop outs, so good for a fixed bike--- think it might have been a british eagle-- i had it enamelled in orange a few years ago-- think its a 21 inch seat tube-- if u want i'll try and put a pic up-- cheers

  • I haz a KHS Montana Pro. Not lugged but nice tubes (True Temper OX Platinum). Abandoned project on account of TT length but should be ok if running your choice of bars.

Have interesting, unpainted fork to go with based around Pacenti fork crown.

PM if you'd like more info/see it in the flesh.

  • Hi @tokaicarl - thanks! A pic would be great if poss. Likewise @picco - do you have an image you could PM / put up here? both sound interesting; thanks

  • I have a lugged Claude Butler with a 54 tt , 501 tubing , and all built up.

    Pictures etc coming

And here they are.. I have a longer stem (12cm) and spare 26 tyres

  • Thanks @Peter_Carter - looks nice but I think too small for me.

  • Not far wrong there...
Might be able to help you with parts . What else are you after...

  • Hm I think I have most parts as I'll transfer from my existing bike. I'll probably be after a more reachy version of my stem but can't tell for sure til I have a new frame (currently a 7 or 8cm nitto technomic); in the market for an upgrade on my lamp too, to an edelux at some point.

  • Still looking... anyone?
