  • I keep both my line faders up and crossfade just because it's the way I've always done it... Old dog and all that...

My mixer (this isn't my actual mixer, mine's a bit dustier)... My sister bought this new in the 80s, I inherited it when she quit DJ-ing... I fucking love this machine...

  • I think i started using line faders when i was regularly doing with a friend of mine. He was quite good at scratching and chopping stuff up (much better than i was) but he was used to reversing the crossfader. I got sick of accidentally cutting records off because he'd left the fader reversed, so I just left it in the middle and used line faders. I even used to use line faders to scratch and cut quickly - i seem to remember being able to crab line faders pretty well. It's been many moons since I was that kind of dj though!

  • I tried to teach myself to do that stuff way back but was absolutely useless at it, so I gave up... Bit pointless with 45s anyway... 😋

I tried again years later with a couple of copies of the Incredible Bongo Band LP... Bloody useless... I remember getting more and more frustrated as I got drunker and drunker as the evening's experimentations wore on...

Left and right on the crossfader, these are my skills... 😬😂

  • I've finally taken the plunge and decided to replace my trusted old Gemini Pt2000 turntables and Gemini PS626 mixer.

Trawling e-bay & Gumtree for Technics has proven to be a massive ballache and a complete minefield. Any that I've asked questions about, I've found a lot of problems not mentioned in the advert and the few that I've looked at, its a similar story. They're overpriced, worn out, no lids, faulty or damaged etc.

I'm sure there's still good ones out there, they are built to last but I've given up trying to find them!

This mans that I now have a pair of Audio-Technica LP1240s on the way and, as it was a similar story to the Technics with Pioneer Mixers, an Allen & Heath 23c. They don't come with cartridges so I'm going for Shure M77G.

Apologies for the csb/bp - I'm just letting the excitement out. I can't wait to get them set up and try them out.

  • It's funny that they've gone up in price so much, it was only a few years ago you could pick up an SL1210 for £150... I could never sell mine, thought about it once or twice but just can't do it...

I sometimes think about picking up an old Garrard and a nice old amp and speakers but my rig sounds great for what I need...

  • Was gutted to get rid of mine mangaed to grab one 1210 2 years ago to replace but cant belive how much they have gone up in price, been looking here in HK for a second hand one.

  • Yeah, 10/12yrs ago you could buy a pair of 1200s/1210s(often with a standard 2 channel mixer) on eBay for about £300/350.

Now because of all these trendy little 20yr cunts 'discovering' vinyl a pair of decks on there own will set you back about £800+

Oh how I laughed when the 19yo Vetement, A Cold Wall wearing hipster bellend in our office told me he bought a pair the other week for £900!

Now he's trying to tell me about vinyl....

    😒🤔

  • Wonder if my sis has still got her silver 1200s... I loved those, used them for ages before I got a regular paying DJ gig and bought my 1210s...

  • That was you once... 😂😂😂

  • I use a 1200 and love it. I've had other turntables and used to just keep the 1200s for djing but eventually worked out they sounded better than anything else I had.

In other news, I just got the Finders Keepers Moonins soundtrack I'd ordered on pre-release ages ago. Such a delightful record!

  • they are rugged as fuck which i why i love them and if you pay for a good cart and stylus they can sound good for home listening,
Pisti take the Vetement weapon under your wing and educate the lad

  • I bought my first of 1210's in October 1992 from Orange on the Oxford Rd, Reading, Berkshire

With a Numark 1425 4 channel, effects & sampler mixer for the princely sum of £1,100

  • No chance, he's beyond education. He's one of these know it all public school boy types...

    He also wears Supreme

  • I did get to keep my sis's mixer tho', love this thing... Built like a tank, sounds great...

  • fair enough :)
bought my 1st sets up for £550 up in Sunderland off a happy hardcore DJ who had had enough of it ( too much wizz) 2 x 1210 and shit kam mixer. 1996 i think

  • Looks like those early Citronic everyone used to use

    Same page pea btw 😘

  • I got my 1200s pretty cheap: £400 in 2000 and something or other. Always amazed at pub and club technics, still more or less working after decades of fag ash and lager spilt on them

  • Yeah, but this one is actually mine! 💙

  • That's for one and, looking at the £500 one they have, that's pretty much my problem.

No cover, no headshell, no hinges and no 45 adapter. That's over £100 on top and then I'd certainly want to service it so that's another £55-75 (+possibly postage.) That's still with no knowledge of the history or a warranty.

Then I've got to find another one.

I've clearly chosen the wrong time to upgrade!

  • I'll ask my sister if she's still got hers, she might want rid...

  • Not exactly the most problematic part of your dilemma, but I'd advise against using them technics 45s centres. They're ever so slightly bigger than most adaptors and can kind of 'cling on' to records when you try and take them off. I've actually cracked a record with them once so now use one of those lovely domed adaptors that you can pretty much hooplah a record on to
