Here's a few possible reasons for trouble with brake cables. Check that cable is routed so that there isn't a sharp bend right after the brake lever. Make sure the endings of cable housings are properly cut without sharp edges and that you have the end caps where needed. Lubricate the cables inside housings so there's as little friction as possible.
Thanks. Had a look and the angles look good. I've put in a new cable with plenty of lube, if it goes again soon I'll remove the levers and check the housing.
