You lose the precious 3 seconds you needed to ride a 49...
-
• #14653
But one thing I've never understood - what happens at junctions/roundabouts if you get caught up? You're fucked right?
I close my eyes and hope for the best.

• #14654
Ha proper ringer that.
-
• #14655
I might have done this a few times. So far so lucky.
-
• #14656
A bit of that. I remember in Graeme Obree's book he said how he was going for a comp record and he just pulled out onto a roundabout without looking. Justification being that if he didn't get the record he would rather not live.
I've never felt quite so strongly about any TT but you'll find you get a lot better at judging how to get out of junctions effectively - use the width of the road to get in the best place to avoid both having to stop and being splattered by a car, judge how much time you actually need to cross a road, what gaps you can squeeze through, etc.

Self driving cars with very deferential algorithms should make this problem disappear :)

Just need to figure out how to wireless hack into them so I can set one up to draft.

The most annoying thing is when you slightly scrub off some speed in order to give way to a car who has priority on a roundabout, only for them to see you and to come to a dead stop in the middle of the roundabout.
For some reason this always seems to happen to me on the H10/17 courses.

Yes, that is annoying. Patronising bastards, stopping when they have right of way. Doesn't help because you have to assume they will carry on as normal.

Kent 12
I've just received an email from the organiser, Esther Carpenter, to inform me that the date has been changed and it will now be run on 25th June.
I'm posting not just to tell you about the change, but also to say I'm shocked that no new organiser has been found.
Esther has done a tremendous amount of excellent work for cycling over many decades but she told me, at least a couple of years ago, that she would like to retire from promoting this event.
I'm sure she is still perfectly capable of running the Twelve, and I certainly would not say that anyone should be prevented from taking on work they want to do in the sport because of their age, but this seems to be typical of the state of time trialling at the moment. There is far too much reliance on people of my generation (and much older) to organise. If we carry on until we drop there will be an existential crisis. You may have noticed that the West London Cycling Association folded up at the end of 2016 - it had existed since 1907. The man who had probably done most to keep it going was Jim Burgin, another worthy stalwart of the TT game, but Jim is in his mid eighties! There has to be a limit for everyone somewhere, and it will be next to impossible to replace all the old people quickly, when they go, by new organisers with no experience.
I'll end on a happier note - The Hounslow has new promoters for our two open time trials, both quite a bit under fifty.

Is there a good and bad traders list on ttforum. Always nervous when someone replies to a wanted add. Mick leger (the saint).
-
• #14663
He's been active a while, so there's that.
But he's also based in France, so there might be a greater chance of items getting lost in the post? -
• #14664
Yeah. That was my summary too. But wondered if there was a list (like we have here). If they're sent tracked not an issue.
Need those st-6871 shimano shifters badly.
-
• #14665
No list, just the occasional thread.
Trading on there seems pretty flaky compared to here, but it seems to work if the number of complaints are anything to go by.
If you use PayPal G&S then you've nothing to worry about.

Yeah. That's At a fee right? 3.4%. So I'll just add that when I pay.
-
• #14667
Yeah. That's At a fee right? 3.4%
Yep, the fee is taken from the payment received by the buyer, so some ask to bump up the payment amount a little to cover it. Don't bother adding unless he has asked you to :)

• #14668
It's 20p plus a percentage which I can't remember offhand: maybe 3.4%? Velocio did mention it in one of the classifieds rules threads.
But most people just add 4%, which usually works out about right. But if you're spending a reasonable sum, you'll want to be more accurate.
-
• #14669
There's calculators online that'll work it out for you
-
• #14670
He's a math student, isn't he?
-
• #14671
Yeah you'd need to add more than 3.4% as it'll the extra you add will also be subject to 3.4%.
My maths lectures come in use! I'll have to tell me lecturer.
No just to find a daily application for the other stuff. Thanks

Has anyone entered the North Road Hardriders / plans on riding it? Just entered now - looks a very technical course!
Anyone with past experience? -
• #14673
Yeah I entered. No past experience.
It's a hardriders event, that's the point. They're the best events! It'll be well marshalled so you won't get lost. -
• #14674
Ah nice! yeah will be sure to sort out my rear brake (integrated one) for this! Think sub-hour is possible??

Good write-up here:

Luck of the draw - generally TT courses don't feature many busy junctions but if it happens, it happens.
