  • I think this is the right place to post but ¯_(ツ)_/¯…

My wife recently got a road bike with 11 speed 105. I’m still on 10 speed with both of us using my turbo whilst it’s so chilly outside.

I know that 11 and 10 speed chains/cassettes are not compatible but in the instance where they’re being used on a ERG turbo (Wahoo KICKR) where you don’t need to change gear during a session is it possible to use one with the other?

I suspect I know the answer but it’s a faff to continually change the cassette on the turbo so hoping there’s a working solution that stops me from making excuses!

  • Yes you can (as long you adjust the derailleur to sit correctly on the one and only selected sprocket), but not advisable at all.
Major damage comes when 11 speed chain is on a 10 speed sprocket, it wears out much quicker that way.
Safer if you keep the 11speed cassette on the turbo.

How? they work fine, it's more the other way round that's the problem.

I even had a 11 speed chain on a 6 speed bike and it work OK.
