Merckx Corsa Extra help please

Stumbled across a nos Motorola frame and fork . I really love this colour scheme but unsure of true value. Valued thoughts welcome on how much to dump on it please. Ta 😀

Wow that's a nice opportunity! You will defo need to chip in more for a nos one. But a lot depends on which country you are based in. In belgium they are sold 30-40% cheaper than if in the uk for example. And they go for ridiculous money in the US. Personally a NOS EM corsa extra I would say anything between €750-€1000 depending on how much you want it and how much the seller wants for it!

Thanks massively that has definitely helped. He's talking of around £850 so it's spot on I suppose. . It's a no brainer really as want it soooo much. He's got a Gan and a Seven Eleven also. I might well hide 2 in the loft from the other half although I'm sure she'd totally understand 😂

I know it's NOS but for me it would need to be an MXL to spend that much cash.

Yeah it is a lot I agree but you don't find NOS anywhere these days. I know because I have been looking for nearly a year. Havig said that when you see the price of the chipped and abused ones go for on ebay (350-500£) it kind of makes sense...

Sort of agree re Mxl leader for the money. However it's finding a mint Motorola in the size that fits. Mxl can be harsh on a smaller frame . Definitely the frame material for a big powerful rider on a big frame for sure!

MX Leaders are really really nice indeed. BUt the last Mx Leader in nice colour scheme I have seen on ebay went for over £1k and they were far from being NOS.... see below

What size frame are you looking for ?

54 cm or thereabouts

Pretty sure mines a 56cm, not seen it for a while .
I suppose when you compare it to buying new steel frame in a nice tube set it's not bad.
Just shocked that's all.
Personally I never understood why MXL is so much more sort after.
I have a Merckx in Brain tubing which I couldn't tell apart from SLX if I was blindfolded.

Mxl has a big kudos thing attached . I'v ridden one and they ride very nice, unsure if any different from many tubing thou. They all roll nice 👍😀

How sure are you it's NOS? And not a respray?

850 GBP is crazy, I sold my Team Stuttgart (not NOS but with complete Croce d'Aune groupset) for that amount... (and think I got a fair price).

Have a good look at the decals, those will tell you if it's really NOS or respray. Resprays tend to use thin vinyl repro decals (often with the rainbow and Belgian colours in the wrong direction...); original decals are a bit thicker (you can "feel" them more than the repro's) and have a very particular outline (often gold coloured). It's difficult to explain but when you've seen enough "real" Merckx decals, you see the difference immediately.

Thank you Wim , the guy did own a bike shop in 80/90 and was an official Merckx dealer. I'v even seen the delivery paperwork from Merckx. So they are nos but that don't make them worth that mo e.g. I know. It's how much I want that colourway

yes, sure, if you really want it and you can afford it, go for it. It's not that these frames pop up every day so this may be once in a lifetime opportunity.

One of my favourite paint schemes.

I stumbled across a lovely nos Olmo Sintex 50th anniversary edition frame a couple of years ago, paid 470 euros about...just for comparison purposes. Only thing "wrong" with it is some scraping under the fork, apart from that totally nos - headset never been greased :-)
