  • I have no recommendations, I just bought the one spray varnish that was in the local art shop because I totally forgot it when I was planning the thing. Maybe @hoops could offer a thought? Tbh I just took a punt at it because the frame was fucked anyway, he's the expert.

FWIW, I bought loads of plastic sheeting and set up a little spray booth in my garage. Otherwise the overspray goes EVERYWHERE. Between coats and sanding and making tea and shitposting on here it took me about a week. If you've got inside hanging space, a heater will help between coats.

Let me know how you get on with the bike spray, as I've got a new cross bike project to fuck up with amateurish painting. I just used, whatever it's called, the hardcore graffiti spray-paint they sell in Black and Chrome.

  • I was wondering if I could just use a cloth and that rubbing paste stuff. The Paints pretty thin. Its already chipped in a few Places.
Want to get the AR-FRD look.

  • Help me decide on new bar tape, the most pressing of questions:

    Go full on fluro wanker

    OR

Black & Pink Rapha Cinelli Tape for a subtle nod.

Grey & Pink Rapha Cinelli Tape for a contrasting nod.

Grey Fizik Microtex Soft Touch for a 'go with what you know' nod.

  • Before and after:

  • love it .. although top tube clamp on a carbon frame 😕

Gotta say, spacers have grown on me. Have you altered stem length? Isnt this Hi-mod?

  • right in the middle, too!

  • although top tube clamp on a carbon frame

    dis

    right in the middle, too!

    dat

At least he wasn't clamping it there whilst trying to get cranks / pedals off. I've seen that. It doesn't end well.

  • Look awesome!

SuperSix top tube are stupidly thin, don't do that next time.

  • @edscoble et al: the clamp ain't even tightened up, just holding it at the right height so I can wrap the bars and grease the pedals, don't you fret.

@Howard having seen someone bend a CAAD10 trying to get a BB out, I'm pretty careful...

@amey 100mm stem, dropped it another 5mm between bar wraps because Jammy said my fit was 'relaxed', the wanker. Nope, it's an Evo from the time when there was 4 types of Super6. I want to replace this with a 52 Hi Mod and get it painted profesh, but I don't have a job or any money so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • This looks so good! I wonder if Cannondale will ever get the hint that loads of people repaint their bikes because the stock colour schemes are so bad.

  • Intrigued; what are your reasons for the valve cap if I may ask?

  • That is rude! The paint seems to be holding up ok (for forum posts anyway)

  • The tubes are not complete without it. The rational part of my brain knows they're not necessary, but without them the valve stems just look incomplete? Tbh, what vanishingly minor benefit I gain from removing them is hugely outweighed by my satisfaction when they're in place. Bit odd, but you know.

@Acliff the pink is getting a bit gross, I'll give it a brief touch up some time in the next few weeks, but the black is solid as a rock. As long as it lasts until I can get another frame and paint it, I'm happy!

  • Like that very much!

Mine stays on as lovingly installed by a club mate who helped repair puncture last year after PBP inside the Paris Velodrome.

  • This is how it's lookin' before todays smashy rainy slogfest.

Having been mucking about on the track bike and cross bike recently, it's such a joy to hammer this uphill again. Never puts a foot wrong.

  • Had a fun Saturday on this - 60km TTT then a 90km solo spin 😇

  • After talking about this bike in @r_mash's thread, thought I would offer an update.

Rode London to Bath on Tuesday with mudguards and bikepacking gear. Got home, removed the mudguards and raced a crit. Both felt completely natural. What a worldie of a bike.

Some pillock can't corner and took me out, hence the fucked up bartape and hood. Also need to replace the front wheel with something or other. Also sprayed the PDW mudguard stays black for reasons.

Still very tempted to get this paint job stripped and done professionally. It's such a brilliant bike it seems a shame to leave it so ratty.

  • When I grow up i want to be this bike

  • One bike for everything Amey, it's not your style.

  • When I grow up i want to be this bike

So you can get wiped out by pillock?

  • Serious bike envy. Maybe it's time you go hi-mod and pass this on to me :)

  • It was a very pleasant surprise to see this beast at Odd Down over the weekend. I was gutted to see you taken out as you looked strong up until that point!

Don't bother getting it done professionally, it wouldn't be the same.

  • very tempted. Very very tempted.

  • It is a much better frames with bigger clearance, none of those weird off-set rear triangle.

  • I don't doubt it. However, my available bicycle money is getting sunk into the Genesis at the moment, and what I really need is a winter bike and a race bike, not a carbon race bike and a steel race bike.

It does look very nice though, doesn't it. Maybe on cycle to work.
