  • Yet again another clear-out item from my personal collection due to lack of space, use and spending too much money on recent purchases..
I've ridden about 5miles on her in the dry otherwise it's only been track/velodrome raced indoors so never crashed, abused or locked up.
Please ask for any more details, pics, etc.
Collection Southampton, possible delivery London when I go, postage at cost.
    Thanks. Tom

    Principia Ellipse SX track frame
Confirmed by Principia to have been built in 2000.
Pretty much 55.5 st and 55.5cm TT both ctc
What makes it different that it's actually based on the Ellipse SX road bike frame tubing but with track geo hence the heavy profiling on the tubes not to mention the Cannondale-like immensely oversized DT. It was almost certainly a custom order as I've never seen one like it and Principia confirmed they don't produce them unless specifically requested. It's as stiff and nippy as the c-dale but surprisingly comfortable to ride due to the choice of tubing. The SX (differential Slope Geometry) was an optional extra on their high end road bikes. It also has the non-road bike option of TIW (tube inserted welding) which gives better tolerances, weight saving and welding quality.
Overall a very interesting and unique combination of tubing, geo and techniques resulting in a super light and ridiculously fun frame.
1 1/8" HT with butter smooth and original Principia headset
    Original Principia seatclamp, 27.2mm seatpost
Rear spacing is 126mm between dropouts so accepts both 120/130mm spaced hubs. It's only ever ran 120mm spaced and centre-ing/adjusting has never caused any issues.
Dropout is stamped on it's spine with the frame serial number.
The paint is very unique and it's so fine yet resilient I'd be tempted to say it's anodized or similar? Either way I've never seen a finish like this on another bike.
The frame runs 100% straight, never crashed, all threads excellent, no cracks, no mechanical issues whatsoever.
The only things I'd like to comment on are that one of the TT stickers has ripped and is peeling badly. There is a tiny ding on the top of the DT but it is superficial, not through the paint, barely affects cosmetics and 100% does not affect function or frame integrity. The usual scuffs and scratches can be found on the frame but overall in very good condition for its age.
    Phew, think that's it!

    Thanks, Tom

    Greets from my homecountry,

  • Rest assured good people - if Tom's owned it, it'll be as good as he say it is.

Bought a frame from him a while back and it was packed with military precision, posted in decent time and completely as described.

  • Its a beauty. GLWS Tom!

  • Haha the people have indeed spoken! I shall try to placate the masses with some relevant pics ;)
Cheers @b&d, I only buy what I'd ride myself and in the condition I want it in which tends to be pretty good ;) Also, seeing I post most things a good description and providing pics as necessary is always a priority.
It could well be that bike, looks pretty much it. I bought it a while back but not off eBay and for a pretty penny too.
It also looks like the Stoemper will be up for sale as unfortunately buyers had to pull out for varying reasons (not due to the bike..!) so I'll be putting up an ad for that in the near future.
    Thanks again. Tom
