They've filled the gaps with a few grams of excess metal and vented it... effectively, they've turned it into a heatsink.
I think this is their solution to fast descents down mountains without having vented or floating discs... and to be fair, if they're able to keep them cooler they will have achieved less heat deformation and have more reliable brakes.
But yeah, they're ugly.
