This was my initial go-to, but my mudguards don't have the L bracket on the top for this to work. I could fit an L bracket but so close with my own contraption I'm just going to see it through now.

Some time ago I cut down a crappy chain tensioner and used it to buy my rear guard onto, thought it was a clever and simple solution
