If any of you guys are passing through Zurich airport in the next few weeks, Blancpain have a display of every 50 Fathoms model they have made in departures. It's a bit of a treat to see.

My Grandad's HS8. He passed away yesterday so it feels fitting I should wear it more often to remind me of him.

Anybody owned or played with a Hamilton? I've never seen one IRL but quite fancy one of the Khaki Pilot Watches as an every day option. I bought my first 'proper' watch last year (Speedy) and I'd like to add something I'm not quite so terrified of scratching/damaging into rotation.
Happy to buy used so looking at <£500. Anything in a similar price bracket I might be overlooking (i.e big face, vaguely 'piloty' or non-dressy)?

I have a Hamiliton Khaki X-wind. I have had it for 8 years. no issues although it doesn;t get a lot of wrist time.. It's a big heavy watch

Sounds like you need to sell speedy.

I must admit, I do love the crosswind function on that watch from an engineering standpoint. But surely you'd have an E-6B (or electronic equivalent) for that purpose if you were expecting to calculate course deviation due to crosswinds.

I use it all the time when calculating the fastest way home on my commute!! :-)

how is it an abuse of public money to spend your cash on a nice watch? it's not as if he expensed it...
Don't be a twit. That's not what I implied.

Not a pilot but I do own a Khaki Auto. Actually bought the 42mm thinking it was the 38mm. I usually prefer a smaller watch but don't think this wears big at all. Decent (workhorse) movement and it seems reasonable value. Looks better IRL than in pics.
If you're after a pilot watch then maybe this? http://www.archimede-watches.com/watches/pilot/pilot-42-b-automatic-b-watch.html

Might a side point but interestingly Hamilton watches seem to feature reasonably heavily in the latest big-screen epic space films, even if their appearance was relatively subtle. Still quite a nice product placement, I thought.
e.g:
Interstellar featured Hamilton watches, in which it played a integral part of the plot:
and
As did The Martian:
