  • 20th May is early season.

  • Well I'm looking to be in form in April. So may is my mid season brake.

Don't worry about the excel file .

  • April? Why? July/Aug is your target, no?

I had to wait ages just to get a 12hr that was before the 24hr so you're still lucky there's more 100s about. I'd love it if they went "oh hippy needs to be fast in June, lets move all our long stuff 2 months earlier". :)

  • Well peak twice. Want to smash the F out of the BUCS TTs in April.
July aug is my target, but pretty achievable to be in good form (for short distance) in April then rebuild with raw endurance for july.

I might try find a 100 near the end of july.

  • Is that the one with the £1000 prize? Typical, give the lazy students all the money, not us full time workers that are struggling to fit in our training... :P

You could always do an RRA 100mi record attempt whenever you want :)

  • £1000 each.
Also if I win one, I can get a scholarship which gives me access to a lot more stuff. So very worth while.

  • Do you know how many pencils I have to steal from the client's stationary cupboard to get that kind of funding?! And those feckin' hill climbers with the big prize pools for events that don't even last 5mins. Bastards, all of you!

    ;)

  • A lot!

The money comes from my Uni, not the race organisation. Not sure if other unis pay, I'd presume so.

  • Anyway, seriously, best of luck with BUCS.

Shit, even I'd almost consider hitting the turbo twice a week for a grand. :)

  • Do you know how many pencils I have to steal from the client's stationary cupboard to get that kind of funding?! And those feckin' hill climbers with the big prize pools for events that don't even last 5mins. Bastards, all of you!

Yeah, but at least you get free kit, etc from your sponsors......right? Err

  • I don't currently have sponsors or free kit.

  • I know!! Can't you change that?

  • Nah, I'm keeping myself busy as a privateer. It's another excuse to use isn't it?

"Oh, well, you only beat me because you have all your kit bought for you while I slave over a hot computer for it" :)

Anyone who owns a frame building company or a wind tunnel though, get in touch yeah? :D

  • We used to have a good reward deal with the University of Birmingham, called Bucks for BUCS or something like that. Shame I wasn't there throughout my student career (three unis in total!) otherwise it might have helped with all the endless kit buying :D . Ended up with 1x individual gold (25 mile TT), and then a bazillion silvers and bronzes in track/TT/TTT.

Quality these days is crazy, I think I got a silver in the 10 on the H10//17r with 20:46 back in 2008, a some years later 4th with 20:36 and now if you don't do a 19 or short 20 I reckon you won't medal.

  • Students don't have the attention span for a 100 or a 12hr so I'd just run one of those and enter it and still probably have my arse handed to me win it.

    • 2. Profit.
  • :D I'm pretty sure there used to be a student 100 mile champs yeeeeeears ago

  • Bong hit and 6-pack of cheap lager per 25mi... job done.

  • I might have to have a crack and some of the track ones next year. Given the money involved! Kind of worth my while!

Most of the fast students for the previous few years have not graduated. Bradbury, bingham. Not sure who else there is whithout looking it up.

  • How much for ventus?

  • Not a problem, will shoot you a pm

  • Bradbury and Bigham are both well graduated and out of it. For the pursuit there are a few fast Loughborough riders like Tom Ward etc. but there are always ringers! Lewis Oliva did the recent sprint events FFS :D

I remember coming 4th in BUSA 10 (when it was BUSA, not BUCS) back in 2007 or something and Gethin Butler won it! He stood on the podium with his son - Open University degree course I think, lol.

  • Really, really dumb question perhaps but I'm thinking about riding some TT's this year, just to have some goals to focus on. But one thing I've never understood - what happens at junctions/roundabouts if you get caught up? You're fucked right?
