  • Good stuff! One of my favourite projects at the moment.

    What saddles are you considering?

  • Was thinking of a Brooks B17 but suggestions are welcome

  • I've none, just curious. Longest trip I've done is 10 days, so this is another ball game. I was happy with my Aliante on that trip, but for something like this I'd probably opt for something proven too.

  • The only issue I have found with Brooks is that they are not water proof so either get a saddle cover for rainey nights or maybe try the cambium ?

  • Looks really good now!

  • I vote for cambium! it is really just fit and forget!! just sooooo confortable out of the box!!

  • LadyLiz is testing a troll for size this evening thanks to this thread...

  • After a lot of fiddling and drilling It's as good as finished!!

  • So good! Can't wait to read about your adventures on it.

  • Love it, great job!

  • Looks great!

  • Great!

  • I'm happy to read your comments @JamesQGM @On1 @Tijs @Thuekr , cheers.

Some notes: while the Cambium looked nice in the end I just went for the more proven B17. The bike feels sturdy as hell, I'm very confident it'll make a lot of kilometers before it'll ever fall apart. It also feels really good to have almost completed such a complicated project in terms of choosing and fitting the components and fiddling with a seemingly endless amount of bolts which all needed to have a drip of Loctite 242 and grease before fitting. Also was very happy to have an extra pair of hands near me when fitting the GB guards, and to drink a beer with after the whole ordeal was over. Makes the whole process a lot less stressful!

Now it is time to do a good test ride on it to see if anything needs changing, luckily it suits the current weather better than the road bike. I also decided to put installing the lightning on hold for a little bit, now I only have a front light and I might as well get a cheap rear light and hook that up at the same time, and take a look at not too spendy battery charging options. Haven't had a good look and read-up on that front yet.

In other news I spunked a lot of money on a down Yeti Fusion Dry 900+ sleeping bag which is for sale on my seemingly most favorite German webshop. It came in a huuuuge sack which is apparently better for storing a down sleeping bag, luckily it packs down to a very agreeable 36 x 16,5 cm. Just 'tested' the bag on my bed (I know ... 😎) and now I am considering living in it or at least use it instead of my normal blanket.

That's it for now. Next time I'll get black brake cables...

  • Looking good!

  • Looks great! Down bags are awesome, just gotta keep them dry. Looking forward to see the bike fitted with bags and everything.

Maybe you've written it before, but when is the expected departure date?

  • Thanks! Somewhere in July or when I've submitted by bachelor's thesis. The months seem to turn slower and slower. Having time to make some extra funds for this trip is not so bad though

    @andy_k glad you like it!

  • Fantastic project.... and hoping to see you over here in China. Let me know if you need any info for the China part.

  • Hi! Where in China are you based? Do you have any tips on 'daily' hotel registration in combination with camping in the wild and trying to sleep as cheap as possible?

  • I got the best birthday present 😊

  • I have the 2 person version of that, the Hubba Hubba. Absolutely cracking tent. One of those pieces of kit that just makes me happy every time I use it.

  • What tent is that!? Looks awesome

  • MSR Hubba I believe.

  • Rad. Also happy birthday
