  • according to the shimano compatibility chart you can go in 2 directions:

    1. Just buy the SW-M8050-L + SW-M8050-R (XT shifters) and just operate your front and rear derailleur separate.
    2. Sell your currecnt (cockpit)junction box and battery. And buy a SC-MT800 (cockpit)junction box and BT-DN110 internal battery (or BT-DN100 if you want to go external) together with just a single XT shifter.

If you can sell your 6870 junction and battery for around €130, both options are about the same price.

  • Right... now i have questions.

    I have a 6770 group (SM-BTR1 battery) from 2013 - assume they're all the same.

I am also in the process of changing from STI levers to the SW-R600 (two on order) with flat bars. I've ordered the SM-BCR2 and the SM-EW90-A junction as well.

    Questions:

Can i return one of the SW-R600 and the SM-EW90-A and get the MT800?
Will that then control the front and rear derailleurs with a single set of buttons?
As the MT800 is wireless, do i need the SM-BCR2?
Would i need to change to a BT-DN110 battery?

And finally, why is this all so complicated?

  • Again, I get all my info from the Shimano e-tube compatibility chart here: http://e-tubeproject.shimano.com/pdf/en/HM-CC.3.2.0-01-EN.pdf

And yeah, you need to change your junction and battery (SC-MT800 and BT-DN110 for example) for synchronised shifting.

Or change your derailleurs (to XT or XTR), junction (to SC-M9050) and connect a wireless unit (SM-EWW01)..

I think the reason for all this is that different parts need to receive and process the settings needed for synchronised shifting and the older derailleurs, junctions and batteries where never designed for this. So you need some kind of combination of new stuff to make this happen.

  • Can the Ultegra Di2 short cage be swapped for the medium cage?
Is it simply a case of unbolting the jockey wheel hanger and swapping it out?

  • I recently dismantled the mech to increase the spring tension for 1x set up and yes it is possible to switch the cage.

  • yup - you can use the cage from a mechanical 6800 mech as well

  • Ta

Are there any medium cages out there with large jockey wheels, like the TT setups but not £400 worth?

  • Potentially better shifting on a 32T cassette.

  • I am running 11-36 with ultegra mid cage Di2 .. its all fine

  • I want to know if the shifting is any better on a 32T cassette with Medium cage though, not run bigger cogs. Also, if I can find a cage that has more efficient big jockey wheels I might throw money at that too.

  • Orient express? I seem to remember someone "on here" has bought these before.

  • I have now ordered:

    1. SW-R600 (x2 but one to return)
    2. SC-MT800
    3. BT-DN110
    4. SM-BCR2 to charge the internal battery

Which will replace 2 6770 shifters, the SM-BTR1 battery & the SM-EW67-A-E junction.
    Anything i'm missing?

  • It was me indeed!

    I bought a 15t/15t for an Ultegra RD-6800.
There are actually two spring settings on the original cage (I only realised when I pulled the cage out) so I would recommend cranking up the spring tension on the original one before smashing £75 on one (which is what I paid IIRC).
I initially thought the gear change was much crisper but that wore off after 600 miles or so.
The Fourrier cage comes with 4 spring tension settings so I need to dismantle and crank it up one notch (currently at level 2 out of 4).

All in, I ain't pro bro so can't feel the 3 watts saved...

  • cables? (diff lengths might be needed)

  • Are those jockey wheels on bearings or bushings?

The label says "use ceramic bearings"

  • They are on ceramic bearings. Apparently

  • I think i have a few spare kicking around but might pick up one more 50cm for the battery just in case.

  • I bought some jockey wheels and they definitely have ceramic bearings. They're Aluminium oxide rather than silicon nitride, so a bit less impact resistant. not that important in a jockey wheel though.

  • Thanks for the info. I'll have a think about it.

  • You haven't see how I ride ;)

  • Anyone got a mid cage derailleur they want to swap for a short cage one? I want all the gears.

Reckon I'll be able to swap to DA levers from my existing R785 ones?

  • the DA calipers are flat mount only, so you'll need a frame that fits them :)
