Not one of the right wing papers mentioned the ban on their front pages yesterday. The only mention of Trump was with regard to Prince Charles. Now they are playing it as a victory for May - or Johnson, depending on to what extent they want to help him keep his future leadership hopes alive.

Reuters is reporting that the ban has been 'tempered' and is 'evolving' which I'd say is about right.

Trump has also definitely softened his language. It's hard to say whether the green card 'clarification' was a change or just a lack of clarity in the executive order - which is something Trump has already been criticised for, his executive orders are very lacking in detail.

So the headline is clearly a lie trying to make May and co look good.

Did you read the article up there about the origin of the list of seven nations? It is not defined in the EO, bit in a bill from 2015, under the Obama presidency.

Of course, Trump could have added Saudi to the list in his EO, and didn't, but he also didn't explicitly leave them out.

It's right that the EO formalizing this policy gets the attention and outrage it deserves but I think people should realize that the US border agency basically have carte blanche to refuse whomsoever they feel like refusing and have been doing so, on really pretty shaky grounds, for quite some time.

An Australian citizen friend with an Australian passport, who also has indefinite leave to remain in the UK where he has lived and worked for 12 years, and who held a valid ESTA to enter the US was refused to enter the US over the summer, because he was born in Iraq.

His ESTA had been revoked without notification in the run up to the election and he was turned away. His christian parents left Iraq when he was a baby and he has never been back. His extended family live in Canada and Even though he was only catching a connecting flight to go on a two week holiday in Nicaragua. He was refused entry to change flights in Chicago and put on a flight back to Heathrow.

And that was under Obama.
