Nice. I have thought of doing something similar myself, but not got around to it. What's handlebars are they? Is it one from On-One?

They're the Ergotec/Humpert Climber bar ...heavy but at 20Β£ cannot complain, oh and the On-one extensions were only Β£8 (they're a tenner now).

I converted my new pompino to risers yesterday and went out in a spin. It was pretty fun.
I wanted to ask if someone could recommend a good rim to throw some 32/35s on. I read anything above 28 on the weinnmans is a bad idea.

Don't believe everything you read on the interwebz. Cheaper to try wider tyres to wheels you already have.
(ps. they do work fine)

@fizzy.bleach nice. thanks.
@Dtroll awesome. thanks for that
@makko good advice.. I'll just go for it and see how it goes. Thanks. -

I have crank issues...
I had a Alfine crank on my Pompino that i wrecked due to installing an extra 2,5 mm spacer inside of the BB cup on the driveside. I think the crank I used was FC-S500. I tried to order a new crank and got a FC-S501 with the double bash guard. On this crank the axel is longer. The tech info still talks both about 42.7 and 49.2 mm chainlines. I however dont understand how to install it. It seems inpossible to get crank to work with a 42.7 mm chain line and a centered crank. If I install the crank in the same way as the old crank the axle is too long on the NDS. The kit includes a 6.5 mm spacer, if I put that on the NDS the crank is not centered?
Whats up with all of this? Do I have the wrong crank with a too long axle? IΒ΄m I stupid? Could it be a little bit of both?

Dude you don't need a spacer, especially if your shell is a traditional 68mm one.
-
• #6474
My shell is the traditional 68 mm on the pompino. But the axle on the new Alfine crank is actually longer than on my old Alfine crank. It is about 1 cm difference. I dont see how it will work without the a spacer.

The kit includes a 6.5 mm spacer,
As in a bottom bracket spacer, to be fitted between bb flange and face of bb shell?
6.5mm seems like a hell of a size for a bb spacer. Then again, I suppose you put 2 of those smaller ones (must be a couple mm) on one side of the mtb bbs.
6.5mm also seems to me like a lot of adjustment to be trying to make in the bb/axle area. I'd probably prefer to make that kind of adjustment by shifting the chainring from one side of the spider to the other. I guess I could maybe see why they've gone down that route though and I dunno if you'd really notice the offset on the cranks, I guess someone at Shimano figured it'd be within the realms of usability.
If you fit the bb with no spacers I presume the nd crank bottoms out on the splines on the axle before preloading the bearing?
If I was building with what you currently have I'd probably scrounge a of a few 2mm spacers from the lbs and see where 2 on the nondrive side got me and be prepared to add one on the driveside and maybe add a thin spacer or two between the cog/freewheel if the chainline needs it?
Poor man's H-bar for the pomp
