I am after a tablet for taking notes, the occasional silly game or 2 when I am bored on the train (hardly ever take the train so fat chance this will happen) and just the usual web browsing / youtube. I was going to get an iPad being an Apple fan, but I really don't see any point in investing £360 on some 2 years old iPad air / mini etc, and see even less of a point to get one of the iPad pros , so I have my eyes on this:
I bought my Mum a Tab A 9.7' for Christmas last year. It's very good and covers all the basic stuff well. The Samsung UI isn't as nice as stock Android IMO but that's a very minor quibble. I'd buy again for myself if I was in the market.
