  • think i've still got an old pair of size 9 ish shimano skate type spd's in my wardrobe.
drop me an email if they're of use and i'll check tonight...

  • atomic.a I have been tempted to do a conversion but never really sure where to start, whats the method?

Buy an old (or cheap new) pair of SPD shoes, tear out the stiff plastic insole which has the the slots that accept a cleat.

Get the shoes you want to convert, remove the insole, cut a nice big hole in the bottom of the sole where the cleat goes.

Glue the stiff plastic insole into place - job done.

Do the softer uppers give enough support for braking?

Depends on the shoe you choose to use.

The biggest problem I found was that after I had inserted the insoles into my normal shoes (old Adidas Stan Smiths) they felt a bit cramped as the stiff plastic insoles I had inserted were a lot thicker than the thin insoles I took out.

Anyhow it is not rocket science, with a bit of playing around you should be able to get it all to work.

  • eyebrows sounds like a plan. Ben?

I've got SPD's on them at the mo. I believe they are pretty universal.

  • are they any good?
