Is it time to start calling out bad cyclists?

calling myself out for shouting "cunt" at a guy who boo-ed in my face as he crossed the road.
Not fussed about him but I hate shouting obscenities in the street and wish i could have come up something more intelligent. I'm sure the cyclist just behind me thought i was a right twat as well.

He was shouting boo-urns.

But you did see it so the signal worked?

I did. No other bugger did though because they didn't expect signals around kneecap height.

Maybe it was just for you?

Did a couple of things this week I need to call myself out for.

1. Proceeding out in front of an ambulance with flashing lights on that was stopped at a give way as for some reason I thought at the time that they need to have sirens on to be in an emergency.

2. Going into the gap between a stopped bus and an hgv despite the fact the hgv clearly was making reversing noises. Got clipped in the ribs and have a nasty bruise to show for it but could have been a hell of a lot worse.

Second one was worse as I shouted at someone on a Boris bike five minutes earlier to get cycle training as they were riding like a dangerously selfish lemon.

Also was there some kind of critical mass ride on Thursday that went past trafalgar square?

Running en masse through pedestrian crossings on a red makes you cunts and counterproductive.

I know how the forum likes a good sweeping generalisation, so here goes....

All Uber and Deliveroo cyclists...

The guy whose response to "can you help me a second?" was "sorry, I would but I haven't got time".

Some thundercunts turned over a wheelie bin of glass bottles in a cycle route underpass.

But more than ten people just carried on past me without helping while I tried to make at least one side less lethal.

Shout out to the two guys who did stop to help (though one was actually a council worker, so...)

Kinda felt like this sans-dog earlier. Misjudged an older bloke wandering into the road (regular road, and 15ft away from the actual pedestrian crossing). I didn't slow much as he walked across the road, as I timed to pass with over 6ft to spare... of course he stopped dead and took a step backward before turning around. Narrow miss and skid.

Bike rage has been significantly reduced recently, was more worried for the oldboy's safety than my own.

Lots of dog walkers are oblivious to the world around them, though. I notice this cruising at slower speeds on shared use paths. Still the odd dirty look from pavement hoggers though.

reminds me, I got 'called out' as a 'selfish moron' by an old bloke for not riding in the cycle lane on Portsmouth Road in Kingston. The guy stepped off the pavement and into the road walking directly towards me to make his point, ironically. Never mind that it had no effect on him where I was cycling and that it was a quiet sunday morning with no real traffic. I guess the cycle lane is actually fairly usable (I still haven't got used to it being there) although it can require an extra couple of bits of traffic crossing getting into and out of it.

You'd have thought with all Peter Sagan's incredible cycling skills, he'd have the nous to not go for the increasingly small gap on the side the pedestrian is walking towards.

Wouldn't last five minutes in London.

Have about reached my limit with the Blackfriars segregated cycle lane. Was run into from behind at speed last week as I stopped to let someone over at a crossing. Everyday the stress of keeping an eye on and trying to predict the random acts of swarms of idiots is ruining my lovely ride to work every morning.

Whilst I'm here, to the cat5 racer swerving from one side of the lane to the other without a glance over her shoulder or flick of her arm to signal, I wasn't patronising you. I would have called out anyone riding like such a prick with the same question. Have you considered cycle training?

I find when riding back from east london, I avoid blackfriars bridge as the segregated path that leads too and upto it, from both north/south just annoys me. When it's empty, the constant lights and their phasing make your journey a stop start mess. When its filled with cyclists, its just a constant head on swivel exercise to make sure that other riders don't take you out...

Yeah, it's shite. It's the slowest and most dangerous part of my journey. Arsehole cyclists doing bellend things, close proximity to arsehole pedestrians and slower than just riding along the road. No benefit whatsoever to me.

Riding on Lea Bridge Road pavement cycle path towards Hackney earlier this week, I sense a hefty bloke on a hybrid in hi-vis & helmet inches from my back wheel. It is unsafe for me to overtake the two unsteady nodders ahead. So instead of waiting a second or two, this bell-end goes around the outside of the tiny woman in front of me, brushing past her as he did, then almost takes out the other slow guy on a bike. The woman was really shaken up. He cycled off & I chased him. Now bear in mind as a 50 year old woman, he's not that fast if I can catch him on a fixie! I had words and got told to eff off, as he careered across the other side of the road.

Good on you for calling him out. You were only going to get abuse, but some of your advice may have worked it's way in eventually.

Easily the worst part of the morning commute for me too. I usually go through around 9.15 but was half an hour early today, and the amount of fuckwittery is colossal.

My favourite is people who steam up the outside of a long queue, only to be faced with people coming the opposite direction, who then force their way into the queue with nary a shoulder check to to be seen.

Anyone's instinct to be being told off by a stranger is to be defensive, but your works will sink in. Thanks!

Yeah tbh I wasn't expecting anything else but abuse from him. But as you say, hopefully he'll reflect on his actions and will think twice before doing it again.
