I don't have much experience with trainers, but I do have a problem with a pair of Nike Air Max:

The plastic cap insert thing in the heels have broken in both shoes. The tops are folded over and make the shoes uncomfortable.

How do I correct this?
My thinking have been to cut the lining open and try to tear off the broken part, but I fear that the plastic will be bonded in and hard to get to.

Anyone here done something like that?

Buy new shoes.

This happened with a few of my mrs' pairs. What year are they from? There seemed to be a recent period where the plastic they were putting in as the heel cup was cutting back through the liner, and after not many wears. I cut through the liner, reshaped the heel cup plastic (made it lower) then cut some packing foam to fit where the hole was and taped over with gorilla tape. Not glamorous but did a job.

^ All the while buying yourself another 30 pairs.

Last pair at my local sneaker store, 50€ on website, went to the store they asked 110€ but let them go for 50. Not sure what happened here...
