General consensus is that the shimano hubs are long lasting and reliable. I have the 3N80 and it hasn't skipped a beat, even with a lot of wet riding. Mine's just cabled up the inside of the fork.
I've never used a posh dynamo hub so perhaps I don't know what I'm missing but there's absolutely nothing about my Alfine one that makes me think I should have spent (considerably) more for an SP or Son.
What do people think of this as a commute/light tour hub? I don't know how dynamos are best set up: where does the cabling go?
