• Yeah the problem is clearance. Thats why I need smaller wheels for a larger tire. Tire sits further back/lower in between the chainstays/fork blades with more room for expansion.

  • I know you have a frame already that you want to use, but you could pick a frame from the 70's which generally have generous clearances for not much money. It would be a more straight forward job.
    Also look for the ones that have got the inside of the chainstays crimped, so you could fit up to 42mm tyres, otherwise you might have to settle for 38 or less.
