• Forgive me if this has been asked but I'm struggling to find any info online...

650b wheels in a frame designed for 27" wheels using loooong drop calipers. Can it be done?? Anyone here done it? I have a very old frame I'd like to squeeze some nice tires into.

  • 27"=630mm wheel diameter minus 650B=584mm gives you 46mm, divided by 2=23mm. So check the drop on the current calipers you've got (if any) for 27" wheels and add 23mm. I reckon the drop would be too much.
You would be better off with a frame built for 700c or the old 26 X 1 1/4 for a conversion.

  • I advised against it, 700c already have a long reach with the brakes, 650b way too much.

A lots of 80/90 steel frame (as long its 700c) is more than enough for 650b conversion.

If you want to stick with the frame, 700c plus big tyres and mudguard will work fine.
