  • How spendy?

I've done a few now, but Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester and Alyn Williams at the Westbury were both utterly fantastic.

However, @Cazakstan 's suggestion is the one, I've not had the tasting menu there, but it was incredible.

  • Ledbury incredible

  • Cheers all. I think the Ledbury is a bit too pricey this time round (and it's very booked up). Looking at something like £60-£100 preferably

Alyn Williams is a possible. When I was checking availability I noticed Opentable had an offer of 5 courses and a glass of bubbly for £65 per person. Has anyone tried this in comparison to the normal tasting menu?

  • The Typing Room in Bethnal Green is really fantastic both in terms of food and ambience, and I believe both the 5 & 7 course menus would be within that price range. Adding drink would likely push you a bit over. The first course is always 'Snacks' and is in effect another 4 tasting dishes.

  • I went a couple of years ago on a similar deal and the food was very good, but was not amazing.

  • Lyle's is a gem. Not sure how spenny it is these days but it was around £70 a head when I went a few years ago..

  • I haven't tried it but I imagine it will be decent. If you get at least one more drink each, factor in another tenner each, plus then there's the service charge on top, and the inevitable bottle of water for the table. It quickly adds up, that £65 will become £85-90 without even thinking about it.

  • Give Portland a go. Excellent, imaginative and tasty. 65 I think

  • Cheers all. I'm thinking £60-£100 for food menu, drinks will obviously bump it up a bit. Don't mind paying extra if the standard menu is noticeably better than the Opentable one but if it's just a similar menu but cheaper to get people going midweek then I'm happy with that.

Typing room looks good but the times available on the day aren't great. One for the future though.

My girlfriend actually took me to Portland for my birthday. Agree that's it's definitely worth a visit.

  • Hi gang, any recommendations for decent places for veggies in London Bridge area?
    Thanks

  • Opted for Alyn Williams at the Westbury tasting menu. Was excellent throughout, finished off with an amazing salted caramel tart. Also pleasant ambience and service that hit the right note between formal/informal, some of the hotel restaurants can be a bit stuffy. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • My feelings too. Fuck, now I want to go back.

  • Lyles, Anglo, Ledbury all excellent shouts for tasting menus as is Alyn Williams but you know that now.

  • Ate at Elizabeth Allen's (formerly Pidgin) pop up for her new restaurant Shibui - it was really good. One bum dish but a couple of corkers.

  • 6 people, tomorrow, liv st. Halal.
    Not tayyabs/ needoos.

Any help greatly welcomed, or we're gonna end up at Inito.

  • theres a moroccan restaurant in shoreditch, Sahara, no ideal if its any good though anyone been?

  • What is currently the best place on Drummond St for Sunday Lunch?

  • Diwana is my favourite but have never been there on a Sunday. Ravi Shankar is a close 2nd. Really enjoyed my time working near there.

  • I haven't been down there for years, and I know that all restaurants go through peaks and troughs of quality.

  • Raavi kebab is probably my favourite at the moment

  • Hey hive mind,

Valentines is upon us, and i need to book someplace good for dinner for two, preferably south and not horrendously spendy, have been to chez Bruce and enjoyed that immensely so think in that sort of league or just below..

    @mashton, @Aroogah, @snowy_again any thoughts...

  • Bummed I missed this, Pidgin was so good! Looking forward to Shibui too.

  • Out. Not explored enough locally to comment. We find good food but not dining experiences lately.

  • troughs of quality

    Mmmmm, troughs of quality.
